The forum runs one of the most (if not THE most) successful B/S/T sections anywhere. So why not an auction?

Will there be non-payers? Yep. Will there be shady sellers? Probably.

People who cannot use this section correctly will not be welcome to participate though - so we can weed them out much better than eBay.

My selling point to BO has been this all along: if it doesn't work, we can always kill it - so why not try it?

let's see how long it takes before a small "fee" is asked to be paid on every auction.

Eventually we plan to do just that. Also to have subforums for cards ending each day...

Everyone as it is just testing.

No plans for that, but if the section grows to where they need to hire a mod or beef up the server or buy auction software that could change slightly. How or in what way I don't know. It isn't a trick to charge fees or anything - the selling point was merely giving the members something they requested.

Everyone (there may be join date and/or itrader restrictions eventually). Sorry about the rush job.

We are looking for up to 1 page of auctions to end this Sunday night as a test.

There WILL be some advertising as a note is going into the newsletter tonight.

Then they are going to evaluate on Monday/Tuesday.

So these cards listed are just test runs? or are these legit auctions? I keep hearing testing, Meaning not real.

I'm sure the auctions are real. It's just testing to see how everything goes.

OK, I'm game. I certainly see the advantages. I'll start with something small and see how it goes.

How long does it take for a moderator to approve your auction listing?

Great to see you took this suggestion! One tip about auction end times, if it's ending 10:00 pm PST, it might want to be listed as 10:00:59 since we don't have a second timer...so the last bid before 10:01 would be the winner.

That sort of defeats the purpose of the auction. I think if you want a reserve, just set that as your min bid. I don't think we should fill up the auction section with cards that people want to see how high it will go, IMO.

I am a fan of this idea. No doubt there won't be the exposure you get on ebay, but you also don't have to worry about shady buyers. The bid style should make up for some of the lack of exposure. I like the max bid for a bidder being the actual bid. Furthermore, because there are no listing or final price fees, there is no incentive for the mods/forum to slap buyers on the wrist in the form of a 99.98% positive feedback and give them the opportunity to bid again. You mess up and your out; end of discussion.
As with anything new, or newly modified for that matter, there will be a learning curve. It shouldn't take too long to weed out the riff raff because they are only given one shot. I'll have something listed soon just to see how things go. #ebayrevolt LOL

I like the idea alot, do we have to submit our auction to a mod before posting it?

I like this idea. I think the iTrader (if everyone uses it appropriately) will take care of people winning auctions and then not paying. Do it once, seller leaves a negative and most auctions that are posted so far have a "no negative iTrader" restriction. As for buying something just to make someone else mad...well, how many times will someone be willing to shell out cash out of pure spite?

Looking forward to seeing how this plays out. Should be fun!
