Default (2) 2007 Topps Sterling boxes - MARIS!!

I finally bit the bullet and went for the 07 Sterling the LCS had. I opened the first box and opened the mystery pack to reveal a gold Mantle #3/9!
of course I then saw that the box was Bonds. I opened it with the hope of an autograph but 4-jersey #7/10. Just like any addict I figured the next box would be better. I opened the mystery pack - Manny #3/50 but saw that the box was ROGER MARIS! I did not open it. I am definitely in the hole on the Bonds box. The Mantle goes for around $50. The question is what do I do with the Maris box. Boxes have sold for around $225. I saw someone had a 1/1 auto of his from 07 Sterling. Are there any chances of pulling anything or should I just sell it sealed? From reading earlier posts this box did not feel any heavier than the Bonds.

I would rip seeing as if you sell it your still not getting your money back but if you rip you have al least a chance at a nice 1/1 and maybe patches..I think there are bat barrels left out there also?? I would rip

That is two votes for rip it. Out of curiosity I did weigh the boxes on my postal scale. The opened Bonds box was 10.7 ounces and the sealed Maris was 10.3 ounces. Maybe that means that there is another cut-out with an auto in it?

Sell it, get $250 for the Maris, most likely you will hit a relic that will only sell for less than $75, if you hit a 1/1 maybe you get $200, and the rare chance you hit a cut (I think 1%) its only a $1,000 card.

It's ONLY a $1,000 card? That would be enough motivation for me to open and see. That's 4x the money as opposed to the $250 he MIGHT get selling the box.

I gotta agree with Sportnutt80 on this one. The suspense would kill me and I'd have to open it.

Ok let's go over this again. The Sterling box costed him $180 from blowoutcards. He will make like $100 from selling the 3 packs he opened, so he is down $260. The Maris box should fetch him $250 on fleebay.
Out of 100 boxes here are the stats
89 are relics that will fetch you $8900.
10 are 1/1s that will get you say on the good side $200
The cut is $1,000
That is $11,900 an average of $119.

Clearly on a re-sell basis you have to sell it sealed. There is my best analysis, if it is clearly for the money sell it, if you want the excitement of opening it open it.

I agree with you there. If the idea is to make money, then obviously the best bet is to sell. However, I would open it just for the excitement of it all. I would've had that box opened faster than the time it took to finish that equation. Regardless, JBS makes a great point!

Does anyone happen to know if the cut auto. has already been pulled? Or, does there happen to be more than one cut auto.?
