Default 2011 Bowman Draft Break - Very Odd in a Good Way! Long Story

Quick backstory.... A few weeks ago I hit a Javier Baez Base Auto out of 3 packs of BDPP. Since then I've been purchasing a few packs a week out of a fresh box of 2011 BDPP. I went in today with the intention of getting 4 more packs. So right before I ask for 4 packs, another guy asks for 4 packs! He wound up hitting a Duane Below Gold Refractor and a Matt Barnes Auto. Crud! I've been looking to pick up a Barnes!

Needless to say, I was no longer getting 4 packs of BDPP. I had a bunch of VIP rewards saved up so in honor of working 69.8 hours this week, I wound up treating myself to the last two boxes of BDPP he had. I paid $125 after tax.

The results were rather strange....

First box... I hit the auto in the third pack. The Chrome Prospect card on top of the auto was Tyler Anderson. I thought to myself yes! At least I avoided Tyler Anderson being my auto....

At least it was a refractor. I didn't hit any color in the box either! Yuck!

I move onto the second box and BAM third pack in yields this.

Hooray, an extra auto!

Very next pack, another refractor auto! I see a Cubs Logo! Give me another Baez PLEASE!!!!

Okay. Vogelbach isn't bad. Its a little O/C left to right but still could grade a 9.5.

So I was in a bit of a rush to get home so I left the LCS with the 20 unopened packs plus my three autos.

Before I go into the next part, I'm not a packsearcher lol. What I'm about to explain was just a mixture of sheer curiosity and probably more importantly, dumb luck.

After I get home, Im sorting through everything and I put my unopened packs next to my brand new postage scale I just bought last week. I notice the top pack looks pretty thick. I figure its probably just a checklist pack. But then I think, maybe its not. Maybe its something crazy like a futures game patch. Already having pulled two autos and expecting there to be nothing left in the box, I decided to play around with my postage scale.

I found three thick packs and weighed them = .65oz

16 packs came in at .55 or .60 oz

1 pack weighed .50 oz

I figured the thick ones were checklists because they always are. I opened one of the heaviest ones and sure enough, checklist.

I thought to myself okay, well I guess I'll just throw the packs up on Ebay saying I already pulled the Auto, and these were the packs that were left. As I was stacking the packs back up, I thought it was so odd that one pack came up noticeably lighter then the rest.

My mind started conjuring up all kinds of reveries that maybe that pack had something crazy in it. It could have been a pack with a patch that only contained 2 total cards making it weigh less. Maybe it was a Harper Green Border redemption and the redemption card made the pack weigh less. So naturally, I opened it...

......... Color! Sweet! ......

........I already pulled two autos from this box ......

...... That can't be ink......

........ It is ink!!!

......BANG!

Not the Orange Refractor Dylan Bundy or anything you were probably expecting but I was super surprised and very happy!

Today I opened 30 packs of BDPP and hit 1 Color Auto, 2 Refractor Autos, and 1 USA Auto. Compare that to the case I opened where I hit 0 Color Autos, 4 Refractor Autos, and 1 USA Auto.

In addition to these boxes and the Javier Baez Base Auto I pulled a few weeks ago, I busted two more boxes of BDPP from this LCS and hit a Buchholz Continuity Auto /60, a Snell Blue Ref Auto, and a Bundy Ref Auto.

WTG The Hobby Shop in Aberdeen NJ!!

Nimmo is not FS/FT. Its flawless. Def going to be my first submission to BGS.

And yes, I still have the 18 remaining unopened packs sitting in my bedroom lol.

P.S. - Im not a packsearcher

-James

So what is the explanation for the Nimmo pack to weigh lighter than the other packs? Were there less cards in that pack?

Everything was the same. No cards were missing at all. Weird right?

Hobby Shop eh? Thought those VIP points sounded familiar. I haven't been over there to see Bob in quite a while. What's he got draft boxes going for?

I have two guys closer to me who don't charge tax and i get the draft boxes about $60-65 now.

He had draft @ $75 each but he usually chops $5-10 off per box if you're a regular. I paid $70 each, plus had $10 in VIP points, plus the automatic 10% discount so I wound up paying about $62/box.

What other shops do you go to? Bob's in Howell is one I'm assuming?

I've heard that the Color autographs can be weighed out by highly sensitive scales. His scale certainly meets that criteria if it weighs to the hundreths place. Mine is .4, .5, .6 etc. To have one that goes .45, .55, .65 etc. will pick up the slightest differences.

I'm guessing either the stock of color autos is slightly different, or something with the printing process makes them lighter. I've heard some case breakers will weigh out the colored autos and then sell everything else. Seems like a lot of work for what could possibly be a $30.00 auto and no profit in re-selling the boxes, but everyone does their own thing I guess.

Thanks Jared! Did you get the Asche yet?

Auction - Never knew that. I wouldn't be surprised to hear people doing it though. I wonder why they are lighter. I can't see it being different stock but am not sure what else could cause the difference. Hmmm...

Are we all missing the most important part of the story...were you going to list the packs clearly stating that you had already pulled the autographs from the box or not?!?!?
