Default Traded a auto/jersey + $$ for a box of 2012 Archives ...SO FREAKEN HAPPY I DID!!!!!

So yesterday I dropped by Chameleon comic/card shop after work. I brought a few backs of 2011 Threads FB - Got a Cam Newton Auto/Jersey /50. Was really happy about it!!!

today after work, I dropped by again to trade it. Steve agreed with that card + some $$ and I get a box of 2012 Topps Archives.

Let me tell you how glad I am to trade the Cam for this box....
and got to say a shout out to Vick and thank you to Fred who picked this box for me (even though this is the last box they had)...lol.

First hit.....

Brett Butler on card auto!!!

and the last hit was a REDEMPTION OF..................Topps Original Auto of WILLIE MAYS!!!!

I believe this is numbered out of /5.

Question now is, should I sell or redeem it.

if I see it ---how much do you think this will go for?
I i redeem it --- Should I send it in to be graded?

Opinions? Thanks in advance!!

I'll say, nice gamble. ;-) I probably would have done the same thing and got a Mookie Wilson auto. :-|

If he sold Cam for $99 on ebay he'd have cleared about $85, which is how much a box of Archives is. Amazing how people are getting hung up on Newton instead of the miracle of a pull you had. Congrats!!

People are hung up on it so next time he can haggle better

Still you came out on top so overall it doesn't matter but if the Maya wasn't in that box would you still have been happy about the trade?

10 years from now when cam has 8 billion autos out there, and this guy has a original 50s or 60s Mays signed card. Who got the better deal? Really no question.

There is one other Mays with a buy it now for $549 I think. A Mays from Museum /5 sold for about $300. These might be slightly more popular.

Grading it can't be answered until you get it.

Great pull!

I agree if anything it should of been a trade but to want money on top of that seems like he got you good.

As far as knowing the guy, my local LCS owner will take me for every penny if I give him the chance, he also is a nice guy.

Nice pull

yes you came out on top but that was LUCK. you didnt trade cam and cash for a mays auto /5. you traded cam and cash for a box thats worth much less than the cam itself. it doesnt matter if he's a nice guy...you are being had.

Yes, haggle better. Next time you have the deal locked, just back out to get more.

Wow, where exactly are some of you guys shoping where your LCS gives you 100% SV cash for your pulls??? I need to go visit, since there's no way those places are going to stay in business long. I doubt many shops give much more than 70% in trade (and usually that is for other cards, not unopened product). It wouldn't shock me if most shops give only 50% in trade for unopened product, and are only going to take something they absolutely know they can move quickly.

To the OP, congrats on the 2 great pulls, and I'm glad you have a good LCS you like and that seems to treat you well.

You have to realize, shops get their UNOPENED product for a fraction of what we end up paying. So even if they give 100% SV in a trade, they still come out on top.

so let me get this straight...

your perfectly ok with an LCS owner telling the OP that he has to give up a Newton GU/Auto that he is most likely going to be able to move easiy, at a marked up price of probably over $100....AND the OP had to kick in extra $$$ for a $85 retail price product, the he got wholesale for probably closer to $60.

So the LCS is making out at least $100 over on this transaction...

ANd your sticking up forthis...because "the LCS needs to make $$ too"?

yeah..making $$ is one thing as a business..highway robbery is another thing

You may have come out on top but you should definitely re-evaluate your relationship with this dealer.
