I don't mean to rain on anyone's parade here, but I think people had way too high expectations for this program to begin with. If Topps is charging $50-$300/box for a few hits, why does everyone seem to expect to get a desirable 50's card for something that is admittedly described as a 'giveaway' (even if they redeem hundreds of the codes)?
I acknowledge that all of the 50's cards (especially 52) that came out early was a pretty disingeuous move by Topps to promote the giveaway... |

I dont expect a monster hit every time I redem but between my business partner and I we redemed over 1836 cards with nothing better then 4-52 highs. Of course we could have bought 15 graded high numbers for the price of 1800+ redemptions or sold them for a LOT more then we payed, but thats no fun. I dont think topps really cares about people in general but with this economy they better because I wont buy anymore for $3 a pop! I checked EBAY and every 52 card I have I could have bought for WAYYY less then the price of the redemption cards.

Fair enough. Just wanted to point out that I think the early results with all of the 52s were skewed and led people to believe that they could also enter in a few hundred (or even thousand) codes and get multiple Topps 52 cards (including multiple high series cards) at any time.

I've been following the website pretty religiously for the past week and it has been 5 days since I last saw a non-common card show up (I did see a Reggie Jackson, 1980, last night) and I've seen only about a half dozen cards after 1980.
I guess, getting a common card from late 1950/1960 or 1970 is better than cards from 1987 to 2000, but still, this is a bad batch of cards going out. In my search, there has been nearly ZERO significant rookie cards from the 1960's/70's and 80's redeemed (no Brett, Yount, Rose, Ryan, Schmidt, Henderson, Dawson, Murphy, Ripken, Boggs, Sandberg etc...) This HAS to be by design. My guess is that nearly everyone, like ME, on this Blog is holding redemption cards until this changes. |

They could be in any condition per the contest rules. They said that some cards are from the vault... probably the good ones. I would expect those to be in decent shape. The vast majority of the cards were industry buybacks and could be in any condition... like the commons you see at card shows.

Redeemed over 160...best card was a 1969 Phil Niekro... No buying them for $2-3 a pop on ebay... rip-off...just buy some some jumbo's or blaster boxes..at least then, you get a patch some black cards, the base(yeah), and maybe a Mora error card#13... and 4-5 cards.... by the way, 2 of my unavailable turned into checklists...

The one thing is that there does appear to be a pattern to the cards redeemed. If you watch carefully, you might be able to redeem at a decent time. Redeeming 160 when the first 20 were crap is not the best strategy.
I would expect to see the prices of the codes on ebay come down quite a bit. |

Three codes entered: 3 hall of famers hit.
I should be excited, right? Continue on. Paul Molitor 1988 Paul Molitor / Designated Hitter / Milwaukee Brewers Card Number: 465 Mike Schmidt 1987 Mike Schmidt / Third Base / Philadelphia Phillies Card Number: 430 Tony Gwynn 1989 Tony Gwynn / Outfield / San Diego Padres Card Number: 570 The least they could do is make them gem grade worthy.

Hell I threw out all my 87's I hated that set! They only made 7 million of them.
I have 9 Barry Bonds RC in my Topps Million lot. They book for $10 a shot. Ill bet I could only get 10 bucks for all 9. Its been 3.5 weeks since a card worth over a $100 has been given out, yet I just watched someone pay $715 for 198redemption cards on ebay. Are you fu--ing kidding me! You could buy a PSA 9 monster old school rookie for that. |
