It was bought by some dude, who cut it up, and now sold it to some dude, and now this dude is trying to sell it to another dude.

It wasn't backdoored. It was purchased at auction - how the auction house received it is unknown.

The chelsor lot of 3 can be paid to jmnesq@gmail.com; they can be sent out today.

yes hence someone at Topps "walked out with them" and they found their way to auction houses. pretty easy to figure that one out. Not saying its a bad thing just pretty much how it happened. How else do you figure they got out if someone didnt five finger them?

still a very nice looking card though. wish they'd release an auto version. Just not the 500 you were originally asking for it lol

Topps could have distributed them. Topps regularly sells uncut sheets. It's wholly possible that they could have sold/given these away and then realized -- oops. We shouldn't have done that. In the words of Job, "I've made a huge mistake."

The printer could have manufactured it, Topps indicated they didn't want them and to destroy them -- and the printer didn't destroy it, but sold it.

They could have been put in the dumpster and someone walked over and took them (perfectly legal).

There are a plethora of reasons as to how they came to be. Very few people know.

What is for sure is that they're rare. And while some people don't like them, the fact is, oddballs like this in baseball cards, stamps, coins, whathaveyou -- things that ARE but should not be -- are worth a significant premium. This is the only Orange Gattis that I've seen, and I've been looking.

Is it a novelty? Sure. But it's also a novelty that will rise and fall depending upon his performance, just like any other baseball card. If he is banned from baseball, the card will fall into obscurity and have a few dollar value. If he turns into the next Trout/Pujols/Mickey Mantle, it is easily a multi-thousand dollar card.

While I'm aware that everyone is an expert here as to how the card came to be, the only sure fact is that it IS, and that it has some value. How much is your decision. The super sold for about $600 and I believe the gold sold for about $300.

Once a real auto Gattis chrome is released that card drops dramatically.

Maybe, maybe not. The bottom line is that there is 1 2012 Orange Refractor. There are 2013 autos, perhaps, but there is just one 2012 Orange Refractor. Not 25, not 50, not 5. . . 1.

What's a 2000 Bowman Chrome Albert Pujols refractor, 1/1, even without an auto, worth?
