I thought this would be a good way to see how everyone feels about Barry Lamar Bonds and whether or not you would like him on your team.

Absolutely. Best offensive weapon in my lifetime. Best player I have ever seen, and an upgrade over whoever we have in LF or Delgado at 1B.

Just not sure if it would be a PR nightmare.

I vote no, but could you imagine bonds in NY with the short porch.

???? WHAT????? I can't stand the man myself and think he is a stain on all of baseball but that is not why I would not sign him. He may still be able to hit but in NO WAY is he better than the worst LF in the game right now and could not play first base if he had to.
You may say he was the best player you have ever seen but as far as playing a position now, I think you are dead wrong.

now now no fighting...I created this poll just to gauge interest... I am curious to see what everyone thinks. He would be a deadly left handed bat in any teams lineup. That team would sell out every game including the ones against the really bad teams and could help anyone win their division. He would be more of a difference maker than any pitcher that goes out every five days.

I just hope I didnt open pandoras box for little kiddies that want to create polls....

I am not trying to fight and did not think I sounded that way. I think most of us have been on here long enough to know the difference. Just wanted to state my opinion. Bonds is a HUGE liability in the field. That is all.

Look it is as easy as this, you sit down with him and say here is the league min, give him a list of rules, if he breaks any of them cut his @$$. It is as easy as that, he is still in the top 100 best players in baseball now and he can get him for nothing, why not get him?

Any more of a liability than Moises "I'm always injured" Alou or Ryan "My Head Hurts" Church is. We could put Endy Chavez out there, but I'd rather have Bonds bat in the lineup.

I just dont see how the Mets could make this move being in the media capital of the world but I guess it wouldnt matter where he signed there would be media anywhere for him. Just a question if he can still hit the bombs and line drives that look like they could take off someones head.

If the Mets sign Bonds, wouldn't that help attendence numbers? As much as I and everybody hates Bonds, if the Yankees signed him and he started winning games, I would start to be on the Bonds bandwagon. I am sure Mets fans will be ok with Bonds if they start to win, just like they are starting to forget about the Randolf firing.

It would def help numbers across the board....if they signed him I would root for him and not against him. There is no way the Alou can stay healthy for the rest of this year but how long do you think Barry would be able to stay on the field? He is no young chicken either and he hasnt played in a long time.

Uh oh some started another poll lol

The Mets just put Church on the 15 day DL again so a Bonds signing would be real helpful right now.

I don't see him playing for a NL team. Now if you are a AL team that needs a DH, you would be silly to not to at least bring him in for a workout and see if he is able to swing the bat still. Its a no lose situation, work him out, if hes in playing shape, sign him to a min. contract, if he plays great your golden, if he sucks it up, let him go.

Did I miss something or has this supposed signing even been talked about? I was just wondering if this was a totally hypathetical post or if there has actually been a rumor of it happening.
I think I will start a Poll on whether or not this is true

The Red Sox organization is reported to be considering it, pending BP's ability to come back healthy. Haven't heard anything about the Mets. Think it might just be speculation on the part of some board members.

ESPN has it under their rumors section. Plus I thought it was a good way to move a slow Tuesday along.

Rumor Central: Will Mets go after Bonds?

My favorite team is the Angels.
Arte Moreno will not sign him after getting burned by Gary Matthews Jr.
Bonds will be a locker room cancer (although he should be on good behavior for a half season), PR disaster, and you can forget about any LA Dodger fans switching over to Angel fans (which is what Arte is trying to do)

However, we can't score and can't beat Boston. If we can't win it all with the team we have now, then we're just resigning ourselves to another 1st round exit and another disappointing season.

Signing Bonds would be like selling your soul to the devil for one shot at the World Series. We're probably better off trying to trade prospects for Holliday or another big bat.

My team is the Yankees.
I'm just gonna say this. I think baseball would be better with out Bonds. I have never liked him before the steroids scandal, and that didn't help it any.

I wish I had enough cash to purchase the Sweet Spots Asterisk "*" card out of spite.

No it was on the back of NY newspapers. But yea it was just "speculation" from the newspapers but who knows.
And it is as easy as this, is he signs with the Yankees I will turn around my feelings for him and call him the best player ever behind Ruth and Arod, if he goes to Boston I will hate him even more with a passion.

I would sign him. You may have some PR issues on your hands, but its not because he's caused some recus in the clubhouse. He's been a stand up player in the league (very few issues with teammates or altercations). Granted he's not exactly friendly with the media, but then again come at me with a negative attitude and I'd probably have the same feelings he does towards them.

Regardless of the controversy, the man gets on base, whether is a homer, a hard single, or a walk. In the AL where he could DH, why not have that bat in your 3-5, or even 6 slot? He has a great eye for the ball. I think he'd be a great addition to a team, especially at league minimum $$!
