Default Am I The Only One Still Not Sold On Harper?

Outside of one year and a sorry attitude I don't see his appeal. He hasn't truly produced especially at his rumored expected rate of pay. If he produced at or even near his 2015 season I would be all in on him, but one season over 25 HRs and one season over .275 does not a HOFer make, especially when both of those happened in one season.

Sounds almost like Eric Hosmer, but Hosmer isn't the headache that Harper is.

For full disclosure I don't own an auto of either player mentioned in this post.

Bryce is still 24. And he's won an MVP. Plenty of time to figure it out and become a legend.

At the same time, he does have his flaws as a player. But his upside is just as serious as his volatility

THIS!

It was like his 3rd year in the league before the ROY was older then him.

Why do we insist on starting this topic over and over? There are already 1,242 Harper hater threads and 1,324 Harper fanboy threads, any of which would have been good to continue this conversation in.

I want him to do well. I really like his passion, but he needs to stay off the DL, and control his emotions....

Comparing Hosmer to Harper? Lolque?

Like...they're not even remotely in the same galaxy in terms of raw talent and potential. Hosmer has 3 seasons of a 1.0 owar or less, including one season in negative territory. About the only thing he has up on Harper is a 'better attitude.' You'd be the only GM in the game to select Hosmer over Harper based solely on this supposed character flaw.

Harper is still a far superior talent at his worst than Hosmer is at his best. So not sure where that comparison even came from.

You know it's real when a lot of people (not OP) start dragging Bryce's hair and off field wardrobe attire into a debate about up and coming talent.

I agree he's at a crucial point in his career where he needs to perform, but it's not like his emotional behavior has exactly caused his team to be a lottery pick squad digging for scraps.

I'd argue Machado is an even hotter head than Harper is. Can't even imagine the amount of flack he'd catch if he had a hispter quaff and wore his sister's Wranglers.

It's almost a given. The Yankees will more than make their money back solely on the fan draw and publicity as well as merch sales, even if he doesn't become a transcendent talent. Plus his swag will fit right into the NY landscape.

I'm not saying this is necessarily true for Harper, but some people do reach their athletic peak at a relatively young age. Only time will tell how the Harper story goes. I'm not a huge fan of the guy myself, but I do appreciate his natural ability.

I don't mind the hair flips and so forth. I am probably wrong but I put Machado higher on the potential list than Harper and given the choice between the two would take Machado over Harper all day, everyday. Again, I don't own a Machado Auto either...so I have nothing invested in the conversation.

Just what we needed, another Harper thread. I can't wait until he signs his $450k+ contract with the Yankees, this place will go nuts with Harper threads.

I'm sold that he will be a good if not great player in the league for about 10 years give or take. Am I sold that he will be a legend and rewrite the record books... of course not.

From a hobby standpoint, his stuff sells very well, but that's to be expected from a player at his age, level of raw talent, and like you said, that we have already seen produce at an MVP level, albeit for just a season. Again, he was UNDER 24!

$450k sounds about right if he hits .240 again

I have no doubt he will become a great star in time. He has some maturing to do, but his ceiling skill wise is limitless.

He's the modern day Andruw Jones, you heard Jones being compared to Mays and we waited for it to happen and it never did. You hear Harper being the Lebron of Baseball and while he does have 1 MVP year, his other years aren't special.

Something about being a punk and overatted my guess. Maybe, that the MVP was a fluke and he's a mediocre player at best.
