OK fellas. I just filed my case with ebay. Hopefully he will deliver my 2 cases of 11 Topps bb. If not, I will get a full refund as I am in the window.

I'll keep y'all posted.

what about box prices ?

2010 topps baseball series one is going for just over 100 right now

2010 bowman draft which is probably ? the more popular product is going for roughly 60

i dont know this just doesnt make sense to me

regular topps has a larger following than bowman draft among traditional collectors, so there is more initial demand. bowman draft has more long-term sustained demand as an investment product.

still $80/box pre-release for regular topps ($126 jumbo) is insane. even with a wrapper redemption the value will not be there to sustain those levels. not remotely close.

yeah you could flip that (assuming it's hobby) for at least a small profit. maybe try for $90/box on ebay. might be hard to get $100 right now with 2011 topps hitting.

LOL! One of the best threads out here. It reminds me of another one where a guy who lived overseas never got an item and was withholding the senders information pending a resolution. WHATEVER happened to that one...I'd love to know but can't find the thread or I'd post a link. At any rate, top notch entertainment and as the OP, I never intended it to go down this road.

I can tell you that this seller was not selling topps S1 below factory.

Case arrived today from an Arizona card shop. Perfect shape, no damage to boxes or anything like it. Yes it was a pain having to wait a month for the case and deal with the drama but I'm a happy camper right now. Already sold one 4-box inner and am contemplating cracking the other. Although I may sell that one as well.

Your opinions are appreciated!

Okay, I didn't see his S1 listings, but I'll take your word for it. Sterling FB, Sterling BB, Supreme, and Plates & Patches were all sold well below factory cost.

they started out selling hobby around $42 a box and jumbos were in the $74 range.

There is one factory price. Blowout is not a brick and mortar store, so they typically do not buy direct. They do buy in huge quantity from a number of sources and get good deals and pass them on to you.

The completed sales of Bowman Sterling on ebay have almost all been by a seller named MamaBear. MamaBear is a "Ponzi Scheme" or "Hit and Run" as dealers like to call it. He sold some cases of a few different products below costs and delivered on them. He has a nice string of positive feedback. For the last month, he has been listing a ton of high end presales that you have to pay for now, but will not receive for another 2-4 weeks. He will never deliver these presell cases. There will come a day when he stops sending out the cases he sold at a loss and just disappears. When he does that, he will have about $75k in sales on cases he never delivered. The ones that were sold more than 30 days prior to a complaint being filed will have no chance at recovery. The ones that are within 30 days will have some paypal protection, but none of them will receive the cases.

This has been a long topic of discussion on some dealer boards. You need to remember, if something sounds too good to be true, it is. There is a long list of dealers who would buy 8 box cases of Sterling for $1600 all day long if they could. Do you think that they don't pay attention to ebay? We have seen this before and I'm sure we will see it again.

If you were one of the early people who got their case, good for you. You are like the early investors in the Bernie Madoff Scheme who actually pulled their money out.
Hmmmmmmmmmm... This would never happen!

The fact that someone is spreading the word that he/she is losing hundreds of dollars trying fulfill orders just makes this smell even worse. No one loses money when he/she could just cancel the orders and refund the money. It's not that hard to change eBay accounts and just start over and continue selling if that is the intention.

I wonder if there is any protection under bankruptcy law for this person that might be a problem for people trying to file claims.

Alright, I know this is old as dirt, but whatever came about with this? I've been reading on a couple other sites that some traders were left SOL on boxes and cases from this seller. Any truth to this?

Since you brought it up, I will wait here patiently for all the apologies to start filing into my inbox since I tried to explain exactly what was happening and was lambasted as being libelous. . . . . . . .

I don't mind telling you my story:

I purchased a few cases from this seller mamabear** and she came through. A couple of cases of Topps Chrome, etc.

Then I pre-ordered four cases of 2011 Topps Jumbo. They cost me $1900 which I paid with Bill Me Later/Paypal.

eBay Feedback Profile for mama_bear**

I also pre-ordered a case of 2011 Topps Jumbo from Fivestarky.

eBay Feedback Profile for fivestarky

Both sellers had 99.9% (or so) positive feedback and over 1000 transactions.

Both sellers took the money and ran.

I filed an eBay claim for the $1900 from mamabear** and my claim was granted and I received my money back within 72 hours. Thank you eBay.

Because I waited beyond the 60 days, I had to file the fivestarky dispute through Bill Me Later. They issued a chargeback to Paypal and the seller has to show proof of delivery - which he has not and can not. So that dispute is supposed to be resolved this week.

Bottomline: I loaned my money on a "too good to be true" scheme. I have (or will) receive every penny back.

Some have complained about discussing this on the BO forum, but that is foolish. I use BO to purchase cards by the case/box and supplies, but if I can get a better price, I will. However...

BO = 100% safe transaction!

Are there good case sellers on eBay? Yes. As a matter of fact, I found BO by purchasing a case from them on eBay.

Are there bad case sellers on eBay? Yes.

Is your money safe on eBay/Paypal? As long as you file in time, yes.

Do I feel foolish or dumb? Absolutely not. If it had worked I would be ecstatic, but it did not. I ordered 8 cases or so and received 3 and a refund for the rest. I still saved hundreds.

Would I go for this again? If the seller has high, positive feedback and my purchase is protected? If I could save hundreds or receive a refund in 30 days? You decide.

Lessons learned:

1. I now know about this type of scheme and I will be wiser to them in the future.

2. It is ok to post about it on BO forums, but expect to be ridiculed by many (not all) others with HUGE cyber muscles.

3. Even though the eBay dispute policy says 45 days, you can call them and get it extended to 60 days.

4. Bill Me Later will accept a dispute up to 60 days after the first bill showing the transaction - this can give you up to another 30 days.

I appreciate every one who posted advice and information on this topic. I learned a lot from you. Thanks.

I appreciate every one who did not merely cyber flex or offer snide insults. Thank you, I learned a lot about how a person with integrity should post.

Did you make a purchase after becoming aware of the situation being "too good to be true" based on the fact that you knew you were protected for up to 45 days (later found out to be 60)?
