Topps announces series 1 wrapper redemption

TOPPS ANNOUNCES SERIES 1 WRAPPER REDEMPTION

To launch and celebrate the 60th Anniversary of Topps Baseball Cards, the company is pleased to announce a special Hobby-Exclusive Wrapper Redemption Program for 2011 Topps Baseball Series 1. (image attached)

Collectors sending Topps 36 Hobby wrappers or 10 HTA Jumbo wrappers of 2011 Topps Series 1 will receive a special 5-card pack of 60th Anniversary Black Diamond cards (collect all 60!).



In addition, Topps is seeding 34 different on-card Autograph cards (#’d to 60), featuring subjects from the original 1952 Topps set, into these 5-card packs.

*Collectors are encouraged to group their wrappers and send in 1 package.

From what I've heard ... yes ... if done correctly (meaning ripping, sorting, and listing Day 1) and you open a few cases.

There are a couple of threads on this subject in the Baseball section.

Yeah obviously not a rip-and-flip if you're only buying a box or two but if you buy cases you can get plenty of complete sets, a few good autos, etc.

I wonder what these will sell for. Topps Chrome wrappers seem to be riding around $50-60 or just a little more for a case's worth and Bowman Chrome looks to be sitting right at $100 for a case's worth.

More cards per pack, but a bigger checklist and there will be people that hate the autograph checklist.

Any guesses?

It's great to rip and flip once someone spots what the shortprints are (pie, lincoln, squirrel, etc.) - those cards sell for ridiculous $$$, of course they're usually ridiculously hard to pull...

Presell case prices just went up, Jumbo cases up about $90 and Hobby Cases are up over $200 since the announcement.

Boy how quickly we forget about what happened last year. I hope all of you do well I really do. I will be waiting until a week or two after release to see how the market reacts first. Then I will buy. Does anyone have the auto checklist yet. I can't seem to find it. Last I heard they are holding back on it until the release.

the checklist is complete - for the most part. lots of TBDs in the base set. TBDs for the world champions stuff, the topps 60th anniversary autos, and a couple relics i think.

Yeah I saw that one, but not a complete one. Guess they won't have it until the release after all. I hope this goes well.

A)these were bonuses that were going to be added and were forgot
B)they noticed how much the previous redemptions helped sales boost
C)they had already been planning on this bonus redemption for the anniversary, hence the early announcement


though im leaning more towards B or C, A is definately not out of consideration, lol. Though i dont see this wrapper redemption being nearly as big of a draw as BC or TC was, such a price hike is just wishful thinking on BO's part.

easy rip n flip every year. Even if you wait a few weeks you can usually at least break even...Add diamond program and wrappers and this is a sure thing

Blowout's Price on Series 1 hobby went from $619.99 to $849.99 today! I think they have their thumb on the scale on this one. This price is no longer competitive with the market.
