Default Phillies Win The World Series!

I live about 15 miles from center city Philadelphia where the Phillies play and let me tell you, people are going NUTS around here. People are outside screaming and every single car is honking their horns non stop. It's great to be a winner haha

Oh Well, wish it took 7 games....At least it wasn't another sweep.

The Phillies certainly deserve it, bunch of class act ball players from top to bottom I think.

big thanks goes out to the umps in that series. that was probably one of the worst displays of game calling i've ever seen. either way, congrats to the phillies...atleast it wasn't boston or the yanks. my rays played their butts off to get there, just didn't have enough to finish.

-proud rays fan

even if they made bad calls, Rays couldn't hit to save their own lives.

Also Joe Buck sucks

Except for game 4 they were all close games. Enjoyable to watch as a baseball fan. It was really neat to see Tampa Bay make it to the World Series. Hopefully all of their young talent will keep it up in the years to come to compete with the rest of the AL East.

Dangerous hitters plus Cole Hammels 2, maybe 3 times in a best of 7 series is hard to beat. My Dodgers found that out that hard way. Congrat's to Philly and its good to see a couple of so. cal. guys in Utley and Hammels make it to the top.

yes, there were bad calls both ways, but you're blind if you couldn't tell it was a little one-sided on the calls (but that happens in every sport)..if the rays would've hit better it wouldn't have mattered. by the way, i'm not downing the phillies. they obviously are a great team and deserve it. congrats!

The calls may have been bad both ways, but that's not the point. The point is the umps did a MISERABLE job in the most important series of the year. Really sad.

I had to laugh as it continued to the bitter end: Hinske checks his swing in the 9th with two outs on an 0-1 pitch, and the HOME PLATE ump makes the call that he swung! WOW -- the third base ump would have given the safe sign, but the power-hungry home plate ump (doing his best Frank Drebin impersonation) takes it upon himself to call it a swinging strike -- puts Hinske behind 0-2 and changes the at-bat dramatically.

Its not like the SB where the best crew does the game. The umpires assoc. negotiated in their deal that the same crew(s) can't always get the Series. They can't do the same team in back to back rounds either. Its basiclly a rotation.
Philly gets in the series and MLB sends the bottom of the barrel. As a fan you're not supposed to remember the umps names. Kerwin Danley has me rolling my eyes ever time I hear he is doing a game no matter where he is stationed. He has to be the lowest rated Ump in MLB today.

Think I can get something for my Jason Werth autographed card I have somewhere? It was from 07 Elements and it was a gold version of the card. Elemental autographs or something like that. I can't remember. When I go home I'm going to have to look for it.

Umps make the game fun, people get way too bent out of shape.

yeah, that sounds good. they are there to make the right calls...without getting bent out of shape every once in a while, why even watch? it's good to get the blood boiling every now and then. one of the best things to do at the game is to yell at the umps or refs.

Yeah but people complain about them like having a computer would work much better or instant replay on every pitch.

People don't think for a second that they have a tough job.

nobody said every pitch needed to be reviewed. and of course they have a tough job. now who's the one getting bent out of shape. all i was saying is that they are there for a reason, and it's not to "make if fun". although, it is laughable at times. now would be a good time to grab a beer. cheers.

just wanted to say to everyone who didn't like the umps calls...

I totally that it's hte highest stage of the game with the most terrible umps, but the calls went both ways.
The called strike on a check swing, then says take your base. What?
I'm a huge phillies phan but still i think the calls went both ways. maybe one more for the rays, but that didn't decide the series, it was the phillies big bats

i agree that the calls went both ways (even i was amazed at the check swing messup, but the balk whas pretty evident also). i just don't like to see that many bad calls in the WS and i know they're gonna make some bad calls but i've never seen so many (both ways). and yes, the bats did come alive for the phillies..big time. lol i'm just proud that my rays made it as far as they did. hopefully they'll keep these guys intact and we can make a run again next year.

If you think about it, the bad calls that really effected the game (scoreboard)still gave the Rays 2 runs to the Phils 1.

Baldelli and Crawford both scored runs on the check swing and bunt calls. Phils only run was from the Rollins tag play at 3rd. The extra outs allowed all 3 of those runs to score when the ABs that followed would have dictated other wise.

Can't take anything away from Tampa. As a Sox fan I thought they would catch the Rays for the divison but I didn't think the Rays would fold after the break like everyone else was predicting. I had them as a wildcard down the streatch. (my Series prediction was actually Angels over Phils in 4 or 5) I think the talent is there and the core is signed for at least the next few seasons. I think its more on ownership AND Rays fans if they can keep growing. If the fans only show up for the playoffs, ownership won't be able to afford the best players.
