The Mpls/St Paul papers have been chattering about a possible trade involving the Twins and Rockies if Holliday were to be traded away. They have mentioned Cuddyer or Young to the Rockies for Atkins. Lord knows the Twins need a power hitting third baseman.

I would guess that Huston Street is involved in this deal. It seems that the Mets want Fuentes and the Rockies dont want to pay him what he wants so it makes sense for Street to be part of the deal.

Holliday traded from Rockies to A's - MLB - Yahoo! Sports

Here is another report showing the possible trade for Greg Smith, Houston Street and Carlos Gonzales for Holliday.

A strange trade even for Beane.

Beane is weird like that... he is up to something though. If you know him he wont make the deal unless its something he can make sense of...for example taking Holliday now and flipping him come midseason for more than he gave up to get him now. Trust me- he knows what he is doing...gotta give some to get more in return later is his M.O.!

Beane will flip Holliday into more prospects at the trading deadline next season. He always stockpiles prospects. The only way he keeps Holliday, is if the A's are winning the AL West. Although, he did trade away everyone this year when they were only a few games out of first. They won't be able to sign him at the end of the year, but will get compensated by draft picks.

Well I guess Carlos Gonzalez and Huston Street were in the deal as well.. so I guess they did get 4 players which is not all that bad for the Rocks. Street becomes their closer instantly.

Fuentes is a f/a I believe so he is gone... You also have to remember Fuentes didn't start the year as the closer and didn't finish the year they went to the WS as the closer. It was Manny Corpas... also they have a great young gun in AAA last year named Juan Merrillo who had a lot of saves.. Plenty of other options and they will get a few good prospects for Street.. Plus, the Rocks aren't going anywhere next year anyways...

any new news on this deal- I love how everyone wants to "break" the story but no one wants to actually tell you its completed yet or if it has I would hate to be one of the players for Oakland in Limbo not 100% sure if I am being traded or not...

last I heard from out here is Street hasn't offically been included in the deal and this could be pending a move to another team before everything settles...

heres why they made the trade. They needed a hitteri n the middle of the order to help their young pitching out. If it works out they do well go to playoffs and so forth. However if it doesnt go well, they trade him at the break and get about the same value back to them
