Default Topps Diamond Giveaway - Mantle Ring

Hey everyone,
I never really paid too much attention to the extras that come along with plain baseball card collecting, until this year when I decided to enter some of my diamond codes onto the giveaway website. I had a couple saved up, and was up to 21 rings...not too bad. After buying a couple Value boxes from Target, I entered the codes and started digging on the virtual field...and ended up with a Mickey Mantle ring. From what I've been reading, this seems to be the key ring to get, in order to complete the collection and get the actual Topps Ring. Is this true? I want to kind of get my facts in a row before I get too excited. I'm at 33 rings now. If it is the case and I did hit one of the few Mantle rings out there, does anyone have any advice? should I just go for it and try to complete the collection (which I assume would be the best way to go about it). Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Chris

In all honesty, I'd suggest selling it. I think you would get more money for the actual mantle ring then you would for the topps diamond ring.

So yes you hit the jackpot, that ring is apparently 1:5,000

no its pretty common...sell to me for $20...no I'm kidding..its states 1:5000...but I am so confused as to what you will get. Just a $200 ring or a $10,000 ring...if you read the terms and rules you will see what I mean.
Don't trade it to anyone, if anything like the man above said put it on ebay those die hard topps collectors will pay top dollar a bidding war might ensue.

Thanks for the help guys. I'm probably going to hold on to it.....I say that now, but I may change my mind in a day or two...depending on how that Mantle ring on Ebay goes... As for the $200 vs the $10,000 ring, I assume one instant win card is a real diamond ring (the 10k one), and there are 60 of the fake diamonds (the 200 buck ones). But I could be way off. As for the requests, I have over 4500 people requesting trades for the ring, but now I know for sure not to pull the trigger on any of those trades. haha.

What is up with the rings. I have a few as I have been selling of my codes. Will Topps ship you an actual ring or does it just sit in you on site collection?

Unless your a big Topps Collector, the most money you will be able to get is now.
So I would list it.

Default I'de sell if it was mine...

I have 59 rings but no Mantle. I have won the Diamond Card Set and an unopened 70s or 80s wax pack. Hoping it's a 70s.

Watch the ebay auction that's on now. Some people may assume all 60 Mantle rings are actual diamonds but frankly, we don't know. After all is said and done I don't think a 1 of 60 ring is gonna be so special in an auction a year from now.

If the ebay auction goes much past $1,000.00 I'd sell, sell, sell.

I could be wrong

That is actually my ring. Do you really think it will go for 1K? I have over 100 watchers on the ring right now. I'm just trying to figure out exactly what you get in exchange for the complete 60 rings? If anyone can help me out I would appreciate it.

According to the terms on the site...all you get is a $200 ring. Someone on here best said its probably the same quality as a class ring.
The 10k ring is an instant win prize.

As far as that auction goes I am 99% sure it goes over 1000.

Also be sure to record every part of the transaction that happens over the Diamond Site, the buyer can easily claim he never
received anything and ebay would issue a refund.

This whole thing sounds like a really dumb Topps gimmick that will be totally forgotten in eight months. Sell everything you got as soon as you can and do the good old fashioned collecting thing of investing in rookie cards (AUTO rookies I would say, which is not quite so old fashioned).

Very good advice. Didn't even think of that. Record using like a video camera on the screen when I trade it over? I have been nervous that something would go wrong somewhere along the line where I get screwed over.

Yea at this point I'd suggest getting yours up too, that way you will get some of the bidders of the first ring to hop onto yours if they dont win. At $1k the smart thing to do is take the money and run!

Crazy, I mean the ring only gets you a shot at the grand prize right?

Dont mean to jack the thread but I have a question about this ring thing. Im assuming the Player rings are the hardest to come by? Because I have 5 total rings (2 Campanella's, 1 Schmidt, and then Colt 45's, and Oakland A's)

Im just getting into this, so what should I be looking/trading for?!

The Mantle is going for a ton because it's near impossible to get. All the others are very common and easy to either unlock or make a trade for.

No problem, yeah if you do enough codes getting to the I think 45 rings for the complete topps set is cake, but unless you wanna pay major $$$ or get super lucky and unlock a Mantle, that's about it on the ring hunt.

Any idea on how I should go about safely trading this ring over, once I post it and someone has won? Again, I don't want to trade it over and have someone say "I didn't get it", when they really did.
