Got some nice sub bumps, but the one that really suprised me was centering (which did not get a bump)...I have personally seen more than a few 01 BC Pujols RC's with the same exact centering that got a 9.5 sub for centering...

So same card graded by the same company and it receives a better grade and better sub grades in some areas? Doesn't do much to increase my confidence in card grading and Beckett. I could understand changes from a different company, but that card has been encased for ten years and got better? I guess it just shows how subjective grading can be.
Please don't take this the wrong way OP as that is a great card and the grading has nothing to do with you.

wow. I know Beckett was once regarded as a very tough grader and is one of the main reasons why their grades would hold more value than PSA's same grades.
Over the years Beckett's toughness on grades has become relaxed and I think it shows here, as well as the price BGS hold on same grades as PSA's. Did you re sub the card slabbed for regrading? or did you crack the case and sub it again? I would think that getting a jump in grades like that was from cracking it out of the case. At any rate. You got a VERY nice "pay raise" with that card going from a 8.5 to a 9. with 2 9.5's!! Very nice card man! I would love to own one.

I don't know how the company can have even have "standards" based on the fact that grading is such a subjective process. Standards would imply that they actually have an instrument of some sort that takes measurements and a grade is issued or that data is acquired in a rigorous manner and then analyzed. Unless I am totally wrong in how cards are graded. This is proven by the fact that the card once graded an 8.5 is now given a 9 grade.

It's pretty obvious that there is room for interpretation on that "rubric". While I certainly understanding the reasoning for grading cards (I just sent in 2 to be graded) I just don't think anybody should be surprised by grades that are given out during such a subjective process.

Well maybe since it was graded in 2001 (when the card first came out) they now have more information on this particular card itself. Meaning, over time they have seen that x amount are bad about surface, x amount are centered this way, etc...so they have become a little more lenient knowing gems arent out there.

![]() Guys - the case was cracked before it was submitted and I did a fair amount oof analysis on the card before I purchased it....I knew 100% the gradeds it received in 2001 were extremely harsh, especially compared to how all the chrome were grading nowadays. Given how much I paid for the card, I think I made out well, but that centering 8.5 is really really bugging me... is the centering on this card any better than my card? IMO, both cards are off a TOUCH to the right... EDIT - just found a pic of another pujols chrome rc with 8.5 centering (which really is 8.5)...compare that card's centering to my card (which also received an 8.5 for centering) and I think you will see my point.... 9.5 centering (almost identical to mine) ![]() 8.5 centering (look how off this centering is compared to mine which also received an 8.5)

Look at the auto on the 8.5 example, it should have recieved a 9 grade. At least we know where Bryce Harper got his pen from.....

Yours look a little more off centered top to bottom then the other ones also. Maybe that is holding it down still also.
