Default Buying from Craiglist

There is an add on Craiglist for boxes of cards that range from $5 to $15 a box. The add states there are basketball, football and baseball. I am wondering how to go about deciding whether it is a good buy. I am sure the seller will not let you go through every box. Any help will be helpful. Thanks.

I wouldn't stay away, but rather ask if you can look through some of the boxes. Ask what products are in there and what years as well.

Also if they are unopened packs or not, and if they are from a personal collection or from the closing of a store of some sort.

If they are form a store closing they may be hiding gems.

Buy a box for $5 and check it in the car. If it's good offer on it all.

I bet the guy knows nothing about sports cards and had these in his closet for years. They're probably unsearched and could hold cards worth $100's of dollars, but he probably doesnt have time to go through them to find out. I wouldnt waste the gas IMO.

Luckily the seller only lives a couple of blocks away from me. I guess I can go look and if I don't like what I see. I can just walk away.

That is a good idea. I will try that. I mean heck I buy $5 dollars in lottery tickets. I probably have a better chance of getting my money back with the cards.

If he lives that close and you can buy one box try and see visually which one would be best and go for one.

This suggestion from the above poster is an excellent idea.

Heck, I would go over to the person's place and just ask if you can look through some of the boxes. I'm sure he might let you, especially if you seem interested. Never hurts to ask. He might also give you a heck of a deal on them all if you weer to take them all.

Now what if these boxes contain hundreds or even thousands of dollars worth of cards, will you give him more than he's asking or just keep quiet and not say anything? I'm sure I'm not the only one interested to find out what's in the boxes, so once you find out, let us know.

I will let you know. I am betting there will be just inserts and commons. But you never know.

So pretty much what everyone thought. They were mainly commons of the 90s. He had some 1997 Pinnacle Baseball unopened packs. And 91 Score Football. I gave him $5 bucks for all of them. There were four Favre cards 2 Deon Sanders and alot of John Elways. So I may use the Elway for TTM. Here is what I pulled out of the Pinnacle Baseball packs. Oh also he unopened 89 Topps football sticker cards....Brought back some good ole memories. . Any here are the better cards out of the Pinnacle:
