Rockies Talking With Yankees and Others Regarding Ubaldo Jimenez | The Big Lead

"As customary at the beginning of most trade talks, the gap between the two teams is dramatically larger than the space between the numbers on former Giant Jim Burt’s jersey"

Don't see it happening but if it does it'll have the Steinbrenner boys all over it. I don't see Cashman making this deal at all. The asking price is way too high for a guy with what is pretty much a great first half of a season. I'm tired of seeing the Yanks mortgage the farm and was really hoping to see a youth movement this season. They got lucky with Colon and Garcia so I'm hoping they keep their pieces, continue to develop and bring up a few of the kids next year.

Oh and the guy who said the Austin Jackson/Curtis Granderson deal being bad...you're so f'ing high.

Ubaldo's stats in Away games this year are Bob Gibson/Sandy Koufax/Pedro Martinez caliber. Here's what he's done when he's not at mile-high altitude:

ERA: 2.28

WHIP: 0.90

Hits Allowed: 30 in 55 innings

Home Runs Allowed: 1

Opposition Batting Average: .158

Opposition On-Base: 244

Opposition Slugging: .242 (not a misprint!)

Opposition OPS: .486 (not a misprint!) In other words, he makes everyone he faces look like Brandon Inge.

Get him out of Coors and into Comerica, a pitchers park.

Seriously? Bob Gibson/Sandy Koufax/ Pedro Martinez caliber? Yes those are good numbers but the guy has had one season with an era lower than 3.40 in an nl west division with the diamondbacks, giants and dodgers. hes 0-2 with a 3.54 era in the postseason. Throw him in the al east and he'll be almost twice as bad.

I doubt he was comparing them. He was just saying the mile high city isn't very forgiving. Those are great numbers. I didn't realize that was the case.

Yes, thank you. I didn't think it was that hard to comprehend.

Just saying the road numbers were ace caliber. Get him out of Coors Field.

And into Yankee Stadium, Camden Yards, and Fenway Park? Those are three of the top 5 launching pads in the AL...

I'm saying it as a Tigers fan standpoint.. He wouldn't have to pitch in all those parks if he was with Detroit...

Although it would be nice to add a big name arm to the yanks rotation, I would rather have them keep their higher end prospects at this point...especially if colon and garcia can keep there sh!t together

The Yankees are my favorite team in the East but come on now, get serious. Do you really think they should hang there playoff success on Colon and/or Garcia? Get real. They have done a fine job eating up innings and have been more than a pleasant surprise for cheap pick ups but if they can get Jimenez, they should jump at the chance. I really do like the way the Yankees achieved success in the 90's with the likes of a lot of homegrown talent (B. Williams, Rivera, Jeter, Posada, etc.) but the East has changed a lot since then and pitching is at a huge premium. If a deal is at all possible with moving Montero plus a few mid-level prospects then they should do that for Jimenez, IMO. Montero is a DH essentially without a position to play. The Yankees system is deep at catcher and could afford to move him.

Even if a multi-top-prospect deal was made by the Yankees for Ubaldo Jimenez it would not be crazy. He would help the Yankees this year and is on contract for three more years for a total of 17.95M and he was much more than that figure last year alone. Yankee stadium is not the hitter's park Coors is, despite what people may think. And, further, Ubaldo's splits this year show he has been pretty dominant away:
Home- 10 GS, 55 IP, 5.89 ERA, 1.83 K/BB, 4.13 xFIP
Away- 8 GS, 55.1 IP, 2.28 ERA, 2.85 K/BB, 3.05 xFIP

Unlikely (Garcia more than Colon).
