Default Thoughts on Wrong Backs.

I was wondering what everyone's opinion on cards with the wrong back on them. I never gave them much thought honestly until yesterday. I went the Vet's Memorial show here in Columbus yesterday. One dealer had a 1958 Maris rc with an Early Wynn back. Card was in pretty good shape, if I had to guess maybe would grade PSA 6 or 7. He was asking $250. I almost bought but didn't pull the trigger. Do think these printing errors decrease or increase a card's value? Does it depend on the card? Does the quality of the player on the back influence value?

My opinion is that it decreases the value of stars/RC but increases the value of commons. I'd rather have a '58 Topps Maris with Maris on the back any day of the week. Maris front/XXX back decreases the value. But commons.... They are interesting and probably add a small amount of value. I have a few 1989 and 1990 wrong/blank backs and they are cool. Then again, NOTHING increases the value of 1989 or 1990 stuff.....

These all depend solely on the buyer. There is a very limited market of people that collect wrong backs... however Maris and/or Wynn collectors might be interested as it would be a card they have that no other Maris/Wynn collector has.

Yeah, the card on the back absolutely affects value. Think of a modern wrong back - your favorite player with Jeter or Pujols on the back as opposed to Gio Gonzalez. It is just very subjective.

I would be interested in wrong backs of Rays players - and more interested with Rays players with a star or other Rays player on the back.

I would not buy these to flip (although it is certainly possible). Sounds like a really cool card!
