After the hype of 2011, this will get overordered and will completely suck

EDIT: after reading the article

Good:
on card autos

Bad:
7 parallels of each card!!!!
Small jersey windows
triple threads-esque die cuts
Same Koufax picture as this year, totally weak Topps

Cant say Im really impressed

This is the fourth year in a row so I guess this is Senior-itis?

joecarterfan 08-30-2011 08:18 PM

I do like the Koufax Auto. I like the black marble back ground and reminds me of 1993 Ultra Top Gloves. I think the World Series trophy cards could be cool. Not digging the rest.

VinnyH 08-30-2011 08:26 PM

Not all on-card...

The Matt Kemp sample 1/1 looks like a sticker. You'd think a 1/1 would warrant an on-card auto.

Tribute has been around since the early 2000's, and was a retired player only product till MLB or MLBPA changed the rules for checklist content a few years back. I think there might have been one original Tribute release that featured modern players. There was a nice on-card Hanley RC auto in the set.

It was discontinued for a few years, and brought back as a sticker autograph filled abomination! Early on-card Tribute cards were a true thing of beauty, and looked a lot better than the tripe Topps puts out now.

coltsnsox07 08-30-2011 09:22 PM

Beware redemptions from last year Tribute(probably this one too), my shop had a few Hellicksons, Dale Murphys and Reggie Jacksons and ALL these guys were replaced with terrible Ticket To Stardom autos instead! Got Pedroia and Longoria bat autos/489 instead of Tribute dual and triple relic autos/99.

PackAttack419 08-30-2011 11:02 PM

Looks weak. And I imagine it doesn't have the chase of the Pujols graded rcs

Laxbam619 08-31-2011 02:41 AM

agreed looks weak imo also, i mean why the hell is this info/pics out so early that topps has time to do that, yet everyother baseball product from this year has been pushed back....regardless I love the line that these will be $50 a pack, thats what they were in 2010, but we all no this past years (2011) was $70-80 a pack

TheToppsMan 08-31-2011 05:12 AM

Hmmm... I wouldn't quite judge yet, Tribute may surprise. I'm not saying anything for sure, just look out.

BBallG 08-31-2011 08:44 AM

wow... out early... can't say that I'm impressed.

armyatc22 08-31-2011 09:08 AM

Just saw the scans and well I think they look pretty good

All everyone wants are on card autos and when they finally start making them everyone still bitches about something else...

Tribute will still sell good no matter what

You are exactly right. I myself really don't care whether an auto is on-card or not tbh. I don't see why it's suck a big deal.

Brad 08-31-2011 11:17 AM

Boring design, tiny swatches, relatively same auto subjects as all their other products, majority of sticker autos. Typical Topps cooking cutter product.

I don't care for them because you're not getting an autograph baseball card, you're getting an autograph sticker. I can take the sticker auto off the card and put it on my TV and say I have an autograph TV of player X. Another problem is the auto runs off the sticker and looks terrible. It just looks tacky and cheap, but that's just my opinion on them.

I can't believe you aren't bashing it.....

We were big fans 2011 Tribute and bought boxes at almost all price points (285-400+). However, based on the preview we're not as high on this product as we were on the 2011 set. As some people have pointed out, the designs are lacking and small relics are issues we see. The only thing that seems exciting about this year's run is the addition of Willie Mays.

Agreed. Here is the 2003 Tribute Hanley. I loved the product back then. I have to say I do not really like it much now but I do have some in my pc because the autos are fairly cheap to pick up.

Nice cards can't wait to see them in person. Answer your PMs

VWBUS1978 08-31-2011 06:09 PM

i like how in the sell-sheet it says "may contain up to 90 players including: then it lists 40 good players or hof'ers and stars... the other 50 must be scrubs... right?

i think they are going to start putting disclaimers on all pre-sell sheets to avoid problems and keep themselves open for watering down... we'll see when the 2012 products go on pre-release... all i can say is if people would stop pre-ordering 3-4 months in advance, we would not have this problem. but i guess this is what it's come to.

They do have disclaimers on the sell sheets. People will still pre-order because they are afraid the price may go up on a product or there may be a limited supply. This is all part of the risk of doing that. ;)
