Default Sorry Trevor Bauer, but you're no Sonny Gray

I'll give Trevor Bauer a little bit of a Mulligan after giving up 10 Earned Runs in 1.2 IP yesterday in the AA Texas League, but Sonny Gray is absolutely untouchable there. After his last outing with 5 Shutout innings, 5 hits, 0 walks, and 6 K's. Gray threw another 5 Shutout Innings tonight with 1 Hit and 1 Walk, 3 K's. In four starts for Midland, Gray has 16.1 Innings Pitched, 0 Runs allowed, 15 K's, and a WHIP of 0.80.

I have no idea how Gray slipped to the #18 Pick. I think Baseball America had him ranked around the #11 talent just before the draft, but Baseball America is also a little too in love with the Strikeout and a pitcher's height, I think Gray was probably right around the #5-8 talent in the draft. Nice to see that Gray is a confirmed AUTO in BCDP, can't wait to add to my collection. I'd love to see Gray, Mike Trout, and Matt Moore battle it out for 2012 AL Rookie of the year.

I love this. I can just see my dual Cole/Gray autos being wanted more because of Gray than Cole. What a shift!

Wow! Great to know! Gray will end up being a closer though which is a stinker because he's so talented

Based on what? He certainly is capable of being able to start and I think you have to let him prove to you that he can't. Which certainly isn't the case. That is part of the reason he fell in the draft because teams were split on whether or not he was a starter. I think as of right now he is definitely a starter.

Just like a similar sized Pitcher back in 1992 named Pedro Martinez. Gray might not be a major Strikeout guy, but the comparisons to Tim Hudson seem to fit just right; a small pitcher without dominant stuff that just flat out knows how to pitch.

I think everybody is in love with the strikeout and they should be. You want a pitcher that can generate high numbers of strikeouts without having to continuously rely on defense to win the games. That being said, I've stopped paying attention to BA because I just think that there are better sources out there. I also think that they tend to choose the best possible outcome when dealing with their analysis and not the most likely.
