Default High-End Topps Redemption Replacement Request

Alrighty. I requested a replacement for my 6 2011 Topps Tribute Yogi Berra Redemptions. I had been waiting quite a while on these and recently decided to move on from my collection, so I figured why not take a gamble and request some replacements?

Some brief info about Topps replacements:
  • Topps will not let you make any requests
  • My cards were received just over 2 weeks after requesting replacements
  • They say replacements will be determined by a "expert" that assesses value and will issue a card of equal value as a replacement.
  • I have seen others post redemption replacements, with mixed results. It is certainly a gamble, and in my experiences it generally doesn't pay off if your card being replaced is a low to low-mid end card.

The original redemptions:

I spent a total of about $425 on the following cards (got a couple great deals) and factoring in eBay bucks + Bigcrumbs/ebates rebates its more like $400:

2 - 2011 Topps Tribute Yogi Berra Gold Dual Relic Auto

1- 2011 Topps Tribute Yogi Berra Black Dual Relic Auto

2- 2011 Topps Tribute Yogi Berra Green Dual Relic Auto

1- 2011 Topps Tribute Yogi Berra Base Dual Relic Auto

The results:

Topps Sterling Duke Snider 6x Jersey Auto 3/10

Topps Sterling Duke Snider 4x Bat Auto 6/10

Topps Sterling Frank Robinson ON-Card 5x bat Auto 9/10

Topps Triple Threads Ernie Banks 6x Bat Auto 8/9

Topps Sterling Don Mattingly 3x Jersey Auto 1/10

Topps Triple Threads Nolan Ryan/George Brett (2-col patch)/Robin Yount Triple Jsy Auto 2/27

A picture:

My Conclusion

Judging by recent ebay sales I figure I did fine (value wise).

Just thought I'd give a little more insight to the mystery that is Topps Redemptions. Feel free to ask questions. Comments are welcome but not necessary

Seems very fair, you're probably happy they didn't screw you over -Lol ... I would actually think the cards you got are worth more

Yeah I must admit, I was a little worried I would get shafted. I had read quite a few threads about topps replacements with mixed results, but none were really comparable to mine. Definitely not disappointed and it was actually fun to rip open the individual packages to see what I was getting. I "hit" the triple auto last which was quite a pleasant surprise.

The triple is great, easily worth half of your investment. I like the Frank Robinson too. You did allright.

Yeah I suppose I am just hard to please and still have that underlying Yogi Berra bias

I am certainly not disappointed and boy was it fun opening those 6 mystery packages (as much if not more fun than opening 3 boxes of Triple Threads).

I think you could sell the Triple and one Snider to recoup your $ plus some. Then add 3 HOFers and a Donny Baseball to your PC for free.

I am really impressed!

I feel you did great. 5 of the cards are numbered to 10 or less and they all have an auto on them with the awesome triple auto. I love the triple, because it has the Ryan Express on it.

I am waiting on a Yogi too, but I really want that card.

Did they say anything about if/when it will be produced?

They did not and would not. I asked several times over the course of the 5 months I waited for my cards. I do know that NONE of the 2010 or 2011 Yogi Berra redemptions have been fulfilled (all yogi autos were redemptions) and I don't think he has had an on-card autograph since 2007. While I don't work for Topps, logic is telling me these likely won't be getting filled anytime soon (if the 2010 autos haven't even been filled yet).

Definitely! I absolutely love the triple auto, I'm going to have a hard time parting with it

So my guess is I should buy another Yogi GU/AU from a different product, then ask for a replacement on this one

Sigh

I have a question and I'm not trying to thread jack. If I could have some opinions, what would I get if I requested a replacement for my 2011 Bowman chrome Aroldis Chapman refractor auto? Is it worth it or will I get a scrub? They already asked if I wanted to replace it because they were having trouble locating it.

Wow I would definitely keep waiting for that, it should be a beauty!

I (and Topps for that matter) have no idea when Yogi will decide to sign, although they do maintain that he will eventually sign and expect to fulfill all his redemptions. I certainly think there is a high(ish) chance you will eventually get it, just doesn't seem to be anytime soon (I mean he's had quite a bit of time to fulfill these already). If I was waiting on an on-card auto like yours I would have continued to wait, I just couldn't be bothered to wait so long for sticker auto redemptions to be filled. Good luck, and keep waiting!
