Default Minor trade Bucs/Brewers - Veras for McGehee

What do you Brewer fans out there think about this? I'm thrilled on the Pirates end. McGehee had a down year in 2011, but from my understanding, he separated his thumb at some point early on and the numbers suffered because of it. Veras probably had the best stuff of all the Pirate releivers last year, but at times he would make you want to tear your hair out with his wildness. But that said, he was definitely the best pen arm not named Hanrahan and should be similar for the Crew.

Some had him penciled in to play first for the Brewers. The Rangers were also trying to trade for him.
He was terrible last year, hopefully it was a fluke

I'm not surprised that they moved McGehee with the A-Ram signing. And I haven't really kept track of him since he was with the Yankees, but the one thing that I really remember about Veras was his horrible outing in which he earned the first loss in new Yankee Stadium history.

Eh, there was a reason that McGhee was let go by the cubs back in 2009. I personally think his 2010 season was probably the best that he's going to have. I don't think he is as bad as he was in 2011 but he's certainly not as good as he was in 2010. Probably a solid move on both parts. I imagine the Pirates move Alvarez to 1B now?

Alvarez is going to stay at 3rd as long as he stays reasonably fit to do so. Wouldn't expect a move to happen within the next 2 years. My understanding is that McGehee will be used as a contingency plan in case Pedro flops again this year. As it stand now, Garrett Jones is set to play 1B this season and McGehee will spell him against lefties. I'm expecting him to be able to put up numbers somewhere in between 09 and '10, maybe 2.5-2.7 WAR. Can't complain about that if it happens.

Casey is a standup guy. He was really pressing last season and I do have to agree that 2010 was probably the best he will ever be. A change of scenary may do him good though. Just below average defense and hits into a ton of GIDP's.

I have a nice Casey signed bat and ball for ya pskell

with Saito and Hawkins gone, the Brewers had to do something. I like Casey, but with A Ram coming in and Green hopefully getting some time, theres no room for him.

If you need a guy to hit a routine ground ball with guys in scoring position, Casey is your man....

Bingo. Not to mention in his big 2010 year, he hit the most homeruns that were "just barely" homeruns according to the ESPN hit tracker (credit: Brewers Deal McGehee To Pirates For RP Veras). The only player to hit more that year was Adrian Gonzalez and that's because he played in Petco. Like I said, I don't think he's as bad as he was in 2011 but he's certainly not as good as he was in 2010.

He seems like a really great guy. Not having him as a "personality" on the team will be missed. As far as baseball playing goes... He seems like a really great guy.

I am a die hard Pirates fan (have been always) Its tough seeing the Buccos losing 100 or so games a season ...
I think it was a SMART move by the Pirates. We have a lot of young arms in the minors (Taillon,Cole,Allie ETC). Pedro Alverez was over rated imo and he hasn't done well for awhile..

Typical front office . Send Veras packing because he might make 3 million or so this year.
