New Project - Mark Grace Rookies

I was a huge Mark Grace fan growing up.....so I've decided to see if I can find all 1988 Grace variations (glossy, minis, traded sets, etc) graded gem mint Luckily, I can find most of these pretty cheap, meaning under $20. Here's my start:

HAVE:
1988 Score Traded PSA 10
1988 Score Traded Glossy PSA 10
1988 Fleer Prospect PSA 10
1988 Fleer Prospect Glossy PSA 10
1988 Fleer Update Glossy PSA 10
1988 Fleer Update Gem Mint 10
1988 Fleer mini PSA 10
1988 Topps Traded PSA 10
1988 Topps Tiffany PSA 9
1988 Donruss PSA 10
1988 Donruss The Rookies BGS 9.5
1988 Donruss Baseball's Best PSA 9
1988 Leaf PSA 8 - WELL Below the target grade, but these seem to be tough to find graded.

Good luck with your quest. There is a Topps Traded PSA 10 on COMC.

yep, I found a box with 300 1988 donruss grace rookies and I remember buying a 25-50 count lot of the 1988 fleer but not sure where they are

Oh, I have tons of them from when I was a kid, but none would grade gem mint

I've always just assumed they were PC cards of somebody that lost interest in collecting. The late 80s RC being graded doesn't blow my mind as much as people who grade something like a 1998 Sandy Alomar Jr. Bowman's Best graded.

Thanks! Cheap project, but may very well be a chase finding some of the more obscure cards graded gem mint by PSA/BGS.

He was born one city over from me in NC, so I always followed him growing up.

Updated with the graded gem mint I have in hand. I'm not quite sure why, but the '88 Donruss The Rookies is my favorite.

Still a few to go. With the '88 Donruss on the way, I think these are what I need at this point:

1988 Donruss Baseball's Best
1988 Fleer Update
1988 Fleer Update Glossy
1988 Topps Traded Tiffany
1988 Leaf

great idea for a project, i am going to think of something similar for one. its cheap, personal, and there will be some challenges i think so itll be fun. i just did a cheap one which was collect 1 of every topps base cards for tom seaver from 68-87. unfortunately, because comc is so awesome - it took me about 10 minutes to complete!

It looks like the '88 Donruss Baseball's Best and '88 Leaf may be the toughest to find. The others I can find, but the '88 Fleer glossy update isn't all that cheap.

My brother was a Seaver collector growing up. The only two of his base he did not have were his rookie and 2nd year. Luckily, I got a '68 Seaver in a trade not too long ago and sent it to him in the mail. Really brought back some memories!

Fortunately when you do find a Leaf, the seem to command less than Donruss for some reason. I used to have a decent sized PC of Greg Maddux and I would routinely pickup his 87 Leaf for $4 or $5 less than his Donruss. I don't know why, because the Leaf are definitely tougher to find.

Once again, I'll keep my eyes peeled for you.

Yeah, he's in it. There are 10 or so on Ebay right now, but none of them are graded.

No problem, I'm a little smitten with this project so I've taken kind of a personal interest. Nowadays when it's all parallels and autos and game used, it's nice to see someone appreciating cards for what they meant to us when we were kids.

Got this beauty in the mail today. The case is slightly cracked in the upper 3rd, but wasn't mentioned in the auction. What a bummer but I'm trying to get it squared away with the seller.

I couldn't resist picking up this authentic RC auto to add to the Grace rookie collection. The angle of the picture does NOT do it justice about how well centered this thing is!!
