Default Possible Vintage 60's & 70's cards I will appraise next week. Vintage guys needed.

Hey guys. I have a work colleague that has a daughter that inherited a bunch of encased late 60's, all 70's, some 80's rookies & some 90's stuff too. Some are signed memorabilia some are just encased rookie cards.

They want me to evaluate the collection next week so I will be taking a look at it & they also said they may want me to sell it for them so if there are vintage collectors here, or anyone that wants certain rookie cards LMK as this collection may have some post in this thread what you may want.

My help question is that im not a vintage collector so I am going to be looking lots of this stuff up to determine value on them to sell. Any valuable names in the 60's & 70's outside of the obvious names I should be looking out for?

Just want to be thorough for these folks.

names I've heard in this mix:

Pete Rose, Griffey & Jr, Frank Thomas (im buying these), Stan Musial, Ted Williams, Willie Mays, Jackie Robinson, Mickey mantle, & others.

Im only stating what they told me they have so hopefully it's a good collection.

I may have interest in some HOF RC's depending on condition and some Ernie Banks cards depending on year

Yeah im a lucky guy. Lots of people know I collect & evaluate cards so I can perfect my appraisal eye. I also do lots of cross checking to ensure value so im getting much better at it. If I had Terapeak it would really help, but the prices are outrageous for it.

First to post is first to get a crack at it, but highest price will get it as they are not mine & they are good folks, but pricing will usually be average pricing of like product.

BTW:If anyone has Terapeak & wants to help out if I run across a card I can't find I would appreciate it.

If the condition of the cards is very high grade, then it may be worth researching the commons to find any low pop examples that are worth grading and selling to the PSA registry fiends.

PSA population reports are records of the number of times a certain card was graded and the number of each grade given. The info is now free via the PSA website. It is not 100% accurate but still very helpful picking and choosing what is worth grading. The lower the population of high grade cards will lead to a higher demand when being sold.

The registry is like a competition to accumulate the highest grade set/collection and drives people to spend crazy money on high grade commons.

When you get a chance to view cards and you need more info feel free to PM me with any questions and I will try and explain it better with real examples that you may have.

There are several sets that are hard to get in high grades. Off the top of my head 1971 and 1975 Topps are pretty hard. If you get a star player thats in high grade, it may be a candidate to get slabbed.

With vintage cards Condition is everything! I would suggest surfing COMC to get an idea of book values for these particular years. Unless the collection is Near Mint plus it is worth pennies on the dollar for short-term resale.

It is not just the stars that sell well from the 60's and 70's. High Numbers are popular and certain year/teams sell well such as 1968 Tigers, 1967 Red Sox, etc.

Good luck. If you need any opinions on the grade, please post some cards.

Cool now that I know about the pop reports I will take a look at them to get an idea & make better evaluations based on those reports along with the other data I can find on purchasing sites like COMC & Ebay.

Im excited to take a look at what they have.

Any words of wisdom are always appreciated & I will update the thread once I get the cards looked at & can take pics or scans.

Just to emphasize what the above posts were saying about pop and condition...

A guy I work with had a couple thousand late 50's baseball cards he wanted to sell. Mantle, Mays, Aaron -- all in there. As we were going through them he comes across a card and says what the heck is this and throws it in the garbage can. I had to look what he threw out... was a 57 checklist - unmarked and in great condition (even after the trip to the garbage can).
Pulled the gradeable ones out to send to PSA - sent the checklist too.

Long story short - the checklist graded in the top 8 all time and sold for $1300

He was quite grateful

I'd be interested in any 1969-1974 Padres you happen to come across. Also any Winfield (1974) or Ozzie Smith (1979) rookie cards.

1970, 1972 and 1979 can be a #@#@#@#@#@#@ too in grading.

Depending on how nice these are, even some mint commons will be worth something.

Hey man, absolutely any of the high condition cards I will be interested in. I don't grade much but I do pick up high condition commons for my sets.
