Absolutely for the current market you did fine. Personally I just hate selling when a guy has a great chance of seeing a value spike and a trade like this certainly puts Rizzo in that category.

For what it's worth there's another /25 at auction right now with about 4 days left, what it does in final price should be a good indicator of how much the trade alone did to spike his values.

True, but I didn't know about the trade haha, I was just scared that i left 40+ dollars on the table, but I'm pretty sure I didn't, only because of what set it came from and that the only Finest autos that are going for 75+ in Red are Hosmer, Ackley, Belt and Trout, and even with the trade to the Cubs I don't think he's THAT high yet. Maybe in a year, but I thought 45 was good for the card...

Either way, good trade for the Cubs, horrible trade for the Padres IMO, cashner is good, but Rizzo is better.

Well, do you remember what Rizzo's card values did? It completely de-bunks your theory. Latos took off pretty damn well for a while also.

Well he dipped quite a bit when the sox traded him, then he started killing it in Triple A, then his cards took off again, then he got called up and stunk and his cards came back to earth, so technically you are both correct.

My point is that you can still make money on players in that market, and many did with Rizzo.

Rizzo jumped because of the huge numbers he was putting up in Tucson and all the BA hype. Plus people knew him as a Red Sox prospect. Latos would have seen much larger value spikes in 2010 if he pitched elsewhere. He was on a historic run before he tired out at the end of the year.

Bummed Cashner got dealt. Had a really nice stash of his stuff a while back, and kept a majority of it hoping he would do well in Chicago once he hit the rotation last year, but he got injured. I was hoping he would bounce back this year and do well with the Cubs. Now I will really have to hope he pitches well if I want to see any sort of ROI on what's left of my stash.

Epstein seems to be heading in the right direction. I say the Cubs rebuild, and are legit contenders within 5 years, assuming he keeps heading in this path.

Im a Cubs fan, so that would be just great.

On a more serious note, he seems to have the determination to get this team at a playoff level year in and out; it's just going to take him some time.

If anyone's looking to move low numbered Cashner, let me know.

Epstein knows what Rizzo can do. This will be a very exciting kid to watch in Wrigley. Wow. Great move Cubs!

As a Die hard San Diego sports fan, I just don't get these moves. Rizzo tore up the PCL, struggled pretty badly in the show, couldn't hit a breaking pitch to save his life. He has a ton of upside, I think, and you give up on him after one year for another unproven player in alonso. While I like cashner, trading for a pitcher who seems to have injury issues seems like a bad idea all the time. Granted we are gonna need pitching in SD, but if no one can hit on the club whats the point. Way to go Padres! Here is hoping Casey Kelly works out from the Adrian Gonzalez trade, or that was another worthless deal.

All I've read about Rizzo makes me think he's a good bet, especially moving to the Cubs and Wrigley. I tend to avoid Red Sox prospects, being a Yankee fan, so I didn't have but one B-Chrome auto. Just grabbed a few other autos at relatively low prices.
A key to me is his makeup and how he came out of medical adversity with a renewed vigor. (hopefully that translates)

Best to All,
VinnyH

He's a 1B, right? Does this take the Cubs out of any chance in getting Prince?

If anyone can turn the Cubbies around, it's Theo IMHO.

I'm guessing so, especially with needs at starting pitching.

I believe the crop in 2013 will be very strong so the Cubs would be wise to save some $$$ for then.

Maybe they'll get lucky and guys like Brett Jackson and Josh Vitters can make that stride this year that gets them to the Bigs (and they are productive).

I hope this works out well for the Cubs! GO CUBS!

Is it really true that Theo doesn't believe in curses and to prove it he gave Steve Bartman a pair of free front row season tickets out in left field???????
