Rake93 on AOL back in 97-02

I remember doing feedback swaps on the old ebay like you said Dilferrules. Ahh the good old days of ebay. You used to be able to sell without having a credit card on file. They gave you $10 worth of listing and fvf's before you had to pay. I was 14 so I couldn't pay with a card so I would just start a new ebay account everytime lol.

I'm sure we probably did, I was doing pretty much 100% football at that time and can recall trading with a Bledsoe collector or two.

I still have sheets and sheets of paper documenting every trade I made on the AOL boards from the late 90's. I wrote them all out old-school with a pencil on lined 3-hole school paper. I should dig them out this weekend and post some of the more amusing/lopsided trades in this thread. If you let me know what your AOL name was I can probably find the exact trades we did, ha.

That would be pretty funny. Would love to go back and review a trade that was done where someone traded a Manning RC for a Leaf RC or something like that

No chat rooms, but I bought & sold on Usenet (rec.collecting.cards) back in the mid-late 90s.

ted just sent me to this thread... i was dickersonpsa10s&chippy9. those chat rooms were the best. SIRBUFFNES from 1997 was the one who i first met

& thats sad to hear about Joey. the reason I'm McGahee21NFL is because he was Bryant8NBA. he was the first to make a screen name using that design, and it wound up catching on....

EDIT- he was clearly murdered. bastards. http://www.modernfitnessforum.com/mi...lacebro-2.html

entire room: David you're a XXXX idiot

As promised, some of the old trades from the AOL days. Mostly football. Starting with my first online trade ever.

8/9/1998
CLICKERSON receives: 1996 Leaf Signature Silver Autograph Rey Ordonez & 1996 Fleer Update Smooth Leather Griffey
Dilferules receives: 1996 Ultra Power Plus Frank Thomas

Even with Rey Ordonez having such a crap career this trade is still awful for me today, the Thomas card currently books for $2.50. At least those Power Plus cards looked cool.

9/15/1997
ripdaddy@erols.com receives: Drew Bledsoe 1995 Score, Summit & Fleer Pro-Visions, 1996 Ultra
Dilferules receives: Trent Dilfer 1994 Bowman, Stadium Club & Playoff Rookie Roundup, 1995 Collectors Edge, Proline base & Silver, 1996 Fleer & Proline, 1997 Score & Topps

This must be from USENET. Just putting this one up for Glen to see, he probably traded with this fellow Bledsoe collector. Also I totally won on this deal.

9/20/1997
HOOTBANK receives: $3 + SASE
Dilferules receives: 6 different Frank Thomas base cards 1992-1996

Just illustrating that in the 90's it was totally normal to ship 6 cards in one plain white envelope. If I'm remembering right, one preferred method was to just jam them all in one semi-rigid (card saver) holder.

9/20/1997
GreenMEN receives: 1997 Circa Icons Griffey
Dilferules receives: 1994 Upper Deck Electric Gold Trent Dilfer RC

I LOVE this trade, generic Griffey insert for a truly hard to find Dilfer card for my collection.

10/18/1997
OUTBACK23 receives: $15 + SASE
Dilferules receives: 1994 Stadium Club First Day Trent Dilfer RC

Ugh, yes somebody on the planet paid $15 for that card. I mean it's fairly tough, but still.

5/8/1998
Glen87 receives: Bledsoes: 1994 Topps, 1995 Impact, Collector's Choice & (2) Ultra Flair Previews, 1996 Ultra
Dilferules receives: Dilfers: (2) 1995 Score Red Zones & (1) 1997 Action Packed First Impressions

Here you go! Glen you also sent me some free commons for my 1998 Stadium Club set...thanks again 14 years later, I still have that set and it's one of my favorites.

6/12/1998
K38k13 receives: 1998 Ultra Nomar Garciaparra
Dilferules receives: 1995 Collector's Choice Gold Todd Van Poppel & 1996 Collector's Choice Gold Terry Steinbach

Two Collector's Choice Gold parallels for a BASE Nomar. He was on fire.

11/9/1998
TSAR GARP receives: 1998 Bowman Chrome Preview Ryan Leaf, 1994 Classic Draft Day Marshall Faulk
Dilferules receives: 1997 Absolute Gold Pennants Redemption Trent Dilfer

Haha this one rules because the big card I gave up was Ryan Leaf and the Absolute Gold Pennants from that year are pretty impossible to find.

12/28/1998
Mikey jay receives: 1998 Flair Row 2 Griffey
Dilferules receives: 1996 Circa Rave/150 Todd Van Poppel

Yes yes I collect Todd Van Poppel, and I absolutely destroyed on this trade.

1/20/1999
dwass@eastlink.net receives: 1998 Pacific Timelines Ryan Leaf
Dilferules receives: 1998 Flair Showcase Row 0 Legacy/100 Trent Dilfer

Oh man this might be my favorite straight 1 for 1 trade ever.

3/1/1999
num1JTfan receives: 1999 Upper Deck JD Drew RC
Dilferules receives: $10 + SASE

I didn't want to put many sales on here but this one was too awesome to leave out.

2/2000
MARDY5R receives: 1999 Bowman Tim Couch RC, 1997 Finest Antowain Smith RC, 1997 Totally Certified Blue Tiki Barber RC, Amani Toomer 1996 Playoff X's and O's & 1996 Skybox Premium Next Big Thing, Ike Hilliard 1997 Bowman's Best RC & 1999 Pacific Checklist, 1999 Edge Fury Gold Joe Montgomery, 1999 Absolute SSD Gold/500 Joe Jurevicius
Dilferules receives: 1999 SP Authentic Excitement Gold/25 Trent Dilfer

Those were a bunch of solid RCs at the time! Now it's a steal for me since that Dilfer card would be very tough to find.

6/2000
OUR6KIDS2 receives: 2000 Pacific Draft Picks 058/999 Ron Dayne
Dilferules receives: 1998 Fleer Brilliants 24-Karat Gold 01/24 Trent Dilfer

Forget what I said about the Ryan Leaf trade being my favorite ever, this one is just ridiculous. The Dilfer card is serial number 01 in one of the best and toughest to find parallel sets of the 90's, and the Ron Dayne card is worthless.

Richard

I was almost certain we did some trades (no idea what, but just remember the name). it was quite common then to just hold card s for people and everyone seemed to know what everyone else was looking for.

looks like you did ok on our deal as well.

well... searching for sports card chatrooms brought me to this thread, haha.... I used to be an AOL trader too. My ID was smoothshooter34 if i'm not mistaken. I miss those days.... I met a lot of nice people and was also scammed by a few people but they were good times. I know it an old thread but I thought i'd put my 2 cents in.

Blowout needs to set up some chat rooms on here, the live feed rather than having to update the threads constantly would be interesting. Are there any chatrooms out there anymore? I wouldn't even know where to look.
