As a Phils fan I have this fear that he will get traded and become a star and we will never really get to see him get a shot. Know what I mean? I think he will too. Wigginton is a nice utility guy not really a regular, he's had a nice season so far, but they can play Mayberry at 1B...heck give Wiggy some time at 3B, mix and match until Howard is back.

I have that fear also ,But if the phillies dont start winning soon dont be surprised to see a fire sale in philly come july not wining equal's cutting payroll

There would be no need to move anyone out of the rotation... they need to TRADE Hamels or Lee for a monster bat... and if they trade Lee... they need to make sure to LOCK up Hamels in a multi year deal....

This, only he would already be the everyday option if: 1) his defense wasn't so terrible and 2) he could keep from getting hurt. I'm as big of a Dom Brown fan as anybody, but throwing in a bat who is already struggling at AAA into an anemic offense just doesn't seem to be the best move. On the other hand, he might be struggling more out of frustration than anything else seeing as he and everybody else knows where he should be and it's not with the Iron Pigs. I certainly don't have any answers, but this offense is so bad SOMETHING has to be done. It's pretty disheartening when our glimmer of hope lies in the knees of Chase Utley and Ryan Howard's pitiful bat. *sigh*

Pretty much my thoughts exactly. This offense is in real trouble...this is not an early season 'slump'. Rube's going to have to make a move (and I think he will).

wtf u talking about....? Qualls gave up 1 HR then struck out the side... papelbon is killing it... the bullpen will be fine. Contreras is a joke.

Yes, Contreras is a joke . What im saying is 5 run's on the bull pen is not good . I didn't mean to come off as every last pitcher in the bull pen sucked. With out that missed call with Kuebel that 5 runs could of cost philly the game .

No, he is completely right. The bullpen is BAD. Papelbon is a great closer...but you have to get it to him. You're telling me that Chad Qualls is your stopper guy? Who else is reliable? Stutes (no), bastardo (no), Contreras (no)?

I didn't mention this at first, since hitting is far and away their biggest problem, but the pen is also a glaring weakness.

Stutes gone to 15-day DL and we got the friendly giant Schwimmer comin up.

P.S. They need to take Rollins out of the 3rd spot in the lineup. He is doing nothing but making outs.

Stutes and Bastardo were about as automatic as they come for the better part of last season. To write them off as unreliable at this point is a bit silly. I think Bastardo can be a very reliable left specialist and Qualls/Stutes will be more than adequate in the 6th/7th inning. That still leaves a hole in the 8th inning there. Either someone needs to step up or we pray that one of the Lehigh arms emerges

I'm not sure I agree on this. The numbers don't necessarily support the "eye test" for me on this, but Stutes especially brings the confidence and attitude our bullpen needs. I know, I know...this isn't an "attitude/confidence" problem, but with our bats being so bad (as you mentioned being the primary issue) we have to have the bullpen on board to hold down a Halladay/Lee/Hamels low-run allowance. We all agree the bats are the issue, but if the middle-relievers don't believe in the team enough that giving up a run in the 7th-8th inning(s) puts the game out of reach, then we're sunk this season.

Speaking of bats, how good is that Pence trade looking? This guy continues to breath life into a seriously anemic offense like Jayson Werth used to (for $100million less )

Agreed, but that was last season. I'll give you Bastardo..he's probably my favorite out of the group. Stutes REALLY fell of this year and hasn't looked any better this year (and now he's hurt). I'm not saying all of the players are bad, I'm just saying there is nobody that is a gimme (ie. Madson in the 8th) or even close to it on this team. The poor hitting overshadows that problem.

Yeah completely disagree with that. I liked Stutes when he first came up (for a good couple months) but since then he's just completely fallen off. I've seen plenty of "eyeing" with him where I can tell he doesn't have it now.

Again, this is all a secondary problem right now.
