I just randomly thought of this question and was wondering what someone else thinks. Because of the way vintage cards are preserved now, would they gain value as they get older?

Vintage has been my focus over the last 6-7 years (specifically, pre-war T206 era). Even for that really narrow area, I could probably write a book in response to your question. Here is my short answer:

For high grade cards, the value is very dependent on the pop report. These cards will continue to retain and increase in value, so long as they remain at or near the top of the pop report. The set collectors on the registry continuously try to beat each other by adding higher end cards to their sets. But a PSA 10 T206 loses a lot of value if another PSA 10 of the same card enters the market.

For low to mid grade cards, they generally tend to increase minimally over time. Much less risk, much less reward.

Again, this is an oversimplification, but it should give you a very general idea of condition v. future value.
