Topps Redemption Replacement Mail Day - It's Not Pretty

Requested a replacement on a Museum Collection Hosmer auto /5, and these were their idea of fair trade value.....riiiiight

eBay value of maybe $100, maybe. Guess I'll be making a phone call in the morning.

Major_League 08-09-2012 11:43 PM

I just threw up in my mouth...:eek::eek:

kobe824 08-09-2012 11:45 PM

Make the call. They tried to send me a 2011 Bowman Platinum Ref Auto Bryce Harper (no number) sells for about $150 on ebay as a replacement for my 2012 Topps Tribute Yu Darvish Auto RC #/25. I called them immediately and the CS rep even agreed it was terrible. I sent it back now waiting to see what I'll get.

njterp 08-09-2012 11:46 PM

Redemption for the silver /10 went for 80 on ebay. Is this really that crazy value-wise? Would have been nice for them to send another museum auto, but seems better than some other replacements posted here.

BowmanFan 08-09-2012 11:47 PM

Probably $85 in value, sorry man

It's not a straight up auto, it's the black on the heavy plate stock.

HoosierBuddy 08-09-2012 11:48 PM

You guys crack me up.

Yeah I know, its the museum collection isnt it? (versus archival auto) the one i was referencing was here: (also a museum collection)

Couldn't answer that for you, but the ONLY one that sold on eBay went for $315, and obviously, it was just the redemption code. I would have been happier if they at least matched that. We all know Beckett's value is well more inflated than that.

It's always a gamble when you request a redemption replacement. I think in almost all instances you are just better off waiting for the card. Especially since Hosmer has autos in current products. Topps uses both eBay & beckett to asses values on cards for replacements (those were their words).

Edit: Here are there direct words from the national when asked about value...

How many of those freaking a-rod autographs do they have... that is what they sent me for a cliff lee 2011 n43 box topper auto /5... SUCH A JOKE

tajikey 08-13-2012 01:05 PM

I contacted Topps on Saturday, and they suggested I mail them back to the Duryea, PA address, with a letter explaining my situation.

So, that's what I did. Here's to hoping the USPS doesn't lose the shipment, and here's to hoping Topps gets it right the next go around.

I can't get to the twitter links from work, but I was at the meet and greet. Forget about what they said for a second. Did anyone comment on how very few of the people representing Topps had been there longer than 1 year? I think they had 6-8 people there, only 4 longer than 1 year. Some were like months.

Also, a nice comment when the guy from marketing said "Bowman is a sleepy product..." What?!?!?!

Topps is out of touch with the collector. I realize they need to turn a profit, but this is ridiculous. Sucks that Topps is king...Panini seems like they have their ish together when it comes to customer relations.

tajikey 08-13-2012 01:27 PM

Also, when I called, the rep said they base the value of the cards solely on Beckett, not eBay. So, I'm not sure when this new practice is set to go into place...

VinnyH 08-13-2012 01:48 PM

The Eissner effect...

His opinion is not good on the direction Eissner (sp?) is taking things.

Best to All,

DirtyBirdy 08-13-2012 01:56 PM

Ah man was wondering what they were gonna give you for that. I got the same thing when I called yesterday to mail them back with a letter. At least yours were in good condition lol

pakman916 08-13-2012 02:02 PM

I called them last week about some missing redemptions. I had 3 Strasburg Finest redemptions (base cards worth nothing now...). Only 1 was delivered with delivery confirmation, but the other 2 show shipped, but no tracking number. I asked them what was up....they said. "oh...we're waiting for Strasburg to sign the cards." I said..."my cards aren't autographed". Then he said.."oh...then they should be on the way out.."

huh? what did he check?

mind you, i could hear people chatting in the background and sportscenter.

Frustrating.

Update:

Yeah, this is their latest attempt to make it right. A Jumbo "Patch" Auto of Jeremy Hellickson /10. If at third you don't succeed, keep trying, which I plan on doing

jeez - that's worse than the first time around

tajikey 10-06-2012 05:27 PM

I think I'll just go ahead and keep this one. Not quite an equal value replacement, but this card is gorgeous in hand. The relic looks to be from a number or letter. Thank you, Topps, for arriving at a bit of common sense.

W_Raoul2 10-06-2012 05:50 PM

Wow, way for them to ship without a penny sleeve, yet again. Nice card, though. Nice to see they could replace it with another /5. Makes you wonder why they held that one back, though.

Smh, topps.

jpitten 10-06-2012 05:56 PM

wtf why wouldn't they do that originally????? i'm scared to request a replacement for my 2012 Topps Series 2 Golden future Dominic Brown Auto/relic /10. I could see me getting a Dom Brown base sterling or something

Yeah, that was my first thought, too (penny sleeve). My guess is someone requested a replacement for one of these, therefore, opening this one up for someone else. That's as much "benefit of the doubt" I'll give Topps.

It took me three tries to get them to equal value, or at least this close, so if at first you don't succeed, try again. My second letter that went along with the Hellickson was a tad on the scathing side.

Ryan T. 10-06-2012 06:03 PM

I have a replacement for a Hosmer museum auto /15 waiting at the PO. Wonder what to expect.
