Good game or not, Cueto needed to put up that goose egg badly after his recent string of abysmal starts.

So who is "unofficially" in the running for Cy Young at this point? Here's my list of who I think actually has a chance:

Dickey (obvious)
Gonzalez (obvious)
Kershaw (obvious)
Kimbrel (best reliever stats)
Medlen (dark horse)

I left Lohse, Cueto, Hamels, and Cain off the list because some combination of Dickey/Gonzalez/Kershaw has better stats than all of those guys. I left Chapman off because (1) Kimbrel has better numbers, and (2) he's hurt, and under those circumstances I think there's only room for one reliever on the list.

Please don't misinterpret what I'm saying ... all those guys I left off the list will get votes (maybe even some 2nd/3rd place votes). But my list contains who I think actually has any chance to win.

Thoughts?

Kershaw is obvious ?? I don't think he should even be considered.

If it wasn't for a faulty bullpen, Dickey would have had 8 IP, 0 ER ... pretty sure Dickey pitched better today than Gio, so I am confused as to how you think Gio made a big push today? Just because of a stat idiots love called wins?! lmfao

when in fact, gio gave up 2 er. A good performance nonetheless.

as for the second part of your statement,
Gio has 1 more win but 2 more losses
Dickey has more strikeouts but gio has a better k/9
Dickey has a better winning % ,
almost 27 more innings pitched,
is ahead in era by 0.18
3 Shutouts to Gios 1, and
5 complete games to Gios 2
Whip? Dickey 1.04 Gio 1.12
Do you really think the voters ignore all of that stuff because of 1 win ?

and CY predictor has dickey in the lead.
