Let me ask you this. Are you a major league player where you have some of the best skills in the world? (rhetorical question)

No, but I play High school baseball where I'm put in the same position as major leaguers, it's baseball. Doesn't matter if it's high school or the pros, it's baseball.

I remember when I went 7-4 with a 1.something ERA, but I was the best pitcher on my team, even though my record wasn't great.

That's a cool story, want to tell me more about how good of a pitcher you were?

Not even remotely true. These guys in the bigs are the best in the world and don't feel nearly as much pressure as a typical high school kid does.

No, just sharing about how a record doesn't matter, and neither do RBI's, which you conveniently ignored my post on that.

I know you said it's your opinion, and if you were a manager you'd want guys who drive in alot of runs, but you'd be a pretty lousy manager.

Credit the dude for trying to steer the discussion back to pitching and the significance of wins and losses versus how important a flipping Run Batted In is.

No matter what you say, they feel pressure, I asked a similar question to joe Mauer when I went to his camp. I asked "what are you thinking about when your in the box?" and he replied "to be honest, im nervous because I want to get a hit every time I'm up and I can't control those nerves, it's something you just have to try to put out of your mind."

Yeah, wanting to produce runs is pure stupidity

I give you Sammy Sosa, the first player that came to my mind when discussing the value of RBIs.

Sammy Sosa Statistics and History - Baseball-Reference.com

Yes, he had many RBIs in the 5-year stretch from 98-02, but not relative to the number of homeruns hit. I mean seriously, look at 2002. he hit 49 homeruns, and only had 108 RBIs. Seriously, that is mind boggling. Just further proves the point that Ryan T. made - it all depends on your teammates, not just you. If they aren't on base, you cannot knock them in. Think about that. If Sosa hit 40 HRs that year - a fairly big number - he would not have had 100 RBIs ...

Wins = runs = RBIs = not a valid way to judge a player's performance. Basically, if you lead the league in runs, RBIs, or wins, you likely performed very well. However, if you did not have large totals in those categories, it does not mean you performed worse.
The other aspect to the bolded area that often seems to be overlooked,
and could be considered "clutch" is BA RISP

In your specific example, he drove in himself 49 times
and drove in 59 runners on base

When I see numbers like that, my first thought is NOT
"no one got one base for him"
It is
"he probably batted a buck and quarter with RISP"

I cant seem to find that on baseball reference. maybe you can. genuinely curious.

That's a cool story, want to share more about how you are comparing MLB players to HS players?

Fact of the matter is both Wins and RBIs are a worthless stat.

You know the Dosgers aren't gonna give him much to work with so it'll be interesting to see how far Mattingly lets him go.

Ask 20 people at ESPN who they think should win and I bet you hear at least 5 different names.

Gosh...10 baserunners in 4 innings and only one run. He probably won't throw more than 5 but damn this is a gutty performance. Too bad the Dodgers can't buy a run.
