Hal Bodley: NL Cy Young Award belongs to Gio Gonzalez | MLB.com: News

"Bottom line: There is a difference between pitching for a playoff contender and pitching for numbers.

That's what separates Gio Gonzalez from his competitors."
And leave you with this article:

Debating Clayton Kershaw, R.A. Dickey, David Price, Justin Verlander and other Cy Young candidates - MLB - ESPN

Here is hoping the voters actually took half a second to think about this year and understand that clearly Kershaw and Dickey were better pitchers this year than Gio.

I think Dickey walks away with this, but I wont be upset if Kershaw pulls it out. That guy is just amazing.

Were these the anchor(wo)men? The voters they have on contract have Dickey Kershaw and a distant Gio. I think saying he SHOULD get it is some biased spin, all of three SHOULD get it, for different reasons, but only one can get it.

This makes me more sure that Dickey or Kershaw should win it.

Legitimate reasons please. Price couldn't do what Verlander does, given the substantially larger amount of innings pitched and batters faced for Verlander.

Default ESPNS Take

1) RA Dickey - Dickey is only the third NL pitcher to post a 20-win season on a losing team in the past 30 years.
2) Clayton Kershaw - Among NL starters, Kershaw finished with the most WAR, a number only slightly below his Cy Young-winning total in 2011.
3) Gio Gonzalez - Gonzalez led the NL in wins (21) and in Fielding Independent Pitching (2.82) and lowered his ERA for the fifth consecutive season.
4) Craig Kimbrel - Kimbrel had the lowest FIP (0.78) since 1900 and the most K's per nine innings (16.7) during a single season in MLB history.

30 mins to go
