The Cy Young award isn't a multi-year award. The award goes to the best pitcher THIS year in their respective league. Kershaw, Gio and Dickey were all deserving, I agree that Dickey was the best choice.

He has had three great years with the Mets what are you talking about out of nowhere?

This...it's pretty simple. Previous or future years are irrelevant.

Dickey was the best choice, but I want to see him do it year after year like Kershaw, Gio etc.

All I'm gonna day is watch out for Gio next year.

This may have been a wasted season for the Mets, but what a year it was for our pitching. A no-hitter (yea, yea, that ball should've been fair) and now a Cy Young for Dickey. Can't forget about Matt Harvey's performance either.

To me, it's like seeing a guy go out and throw a perfect game, and then the next start, get rocked for 6 runs and come out in the third inning.

If he remains at this caliber for another year or two, it'll at least confirm this award, at least for me, as if my opinion matters.

I don't really want to argue with THE Dickey collector, but 11 and 9 and 8 and 13 aren't "great years" by any stretch of the imagination (and yes, I know W/L isn't the ultimate indicator of a pitcher's ability, with King Felix being a prime example). He definitely went off in 2012, nearly doubling his best strikeouts year, but I just don't see great in anything before this year.

I appreciate the respect haha
but why would you look at just his wins? His ERA alone proved he was a great pitcher the last three years lol

Here are the complete results: Storybook year ends in NL Cy Young for R.A. Dickey | MLB.com: News

The only thing that really surprises me is that Medlen didn't get a single vote...I'm not even that surprised that someone was stupid enough to give Kimbrel a first-place vote

Congrats to Dickey and Verlander, both very deserving pitchers who had great years. I personally would have chosen Verlander and Kershaw, but I think that anyone arguing for Dickey or Price has a legitimate case that cannot be discredited.

Guess I should have made that bet about Kershaw finishing ahead of Gio. I always knew Kershaw was the better pitcher with the better year, but I don't like making wagers on what a bunch of voters think. Just glad Gio didn't finish above the two real candidates.

Just crazy. Every team is looking for that mid to high 90s fastball pitcher and a knuckleballer wins the Cy Young. BEAST

Just remember, Dickey throws his knuckler in the low to mid 80s. My fastball tops out at about 70.

Yeah, I've got some work to do

Here's an interesting look at the development of Dickey's knuckler: Mastering the Knuckleball Part 2: How has R.A. Dickey Developed and Why is his Knuckleball So Much Better than Tim Wakefield's? - Beyond the Box Score
