My first thought was the Peter Max set but that is looking to be near impossible due to the fakes on the market. I'd like something cool looking with a good selection of players but would like to be able to finish in a year or so.
How about 1997 Flair Showcase Hot Gloves Inserts???

Must be fate. I've been considering that exact set. I wish some of the cards sold for a bit more. Maybe I will work on getting the entire set PSA 10. That will be a serious challenge I would think. Def on the list.

Here are a few I would go for if I had the scratch:

You might also want to go with a partial parallel set, like 1996 finest gold refractors, 1997 finest gold embossed refractors (maybe not doable), 1997 finest gold refractors, 1999 fleer brilliants 24k, 1998 pinnacle gold artists proofs, or one of the platinum medallion sets. it's going to be really tough to put together a set that has cards in the $500 range. not a whole lot of those out there, and the ones that are i certainly wouldn't consider doable, like 1996 pinnacle certified mirror gold.

Thanks guys. That certainly gives me a nice jumping off point. I'm not super concerned about the cost to be honest but more the do-ability. My attention span for difficult projects is pretty small in the hobby world which is weird because of the great attention span I have in my work. With that said, I am going to start looking into these and hopefully I will have a nice project to add to a few of my other mini-projects and one mega project.

I love that hot gloves set. I would pick that one to start. On I'm going for the Established AUman listed above, those look great in person. Quantum leap would be a great set to put together but would take many years to locate everything and a lot of money!!

Me too. I gave up when the guy selling the Ivan Rodriguez thought it was worth Griffey money. I got 3 tho. Griffey, Alomar and Mo Vaughn. 27 to go lol

Picked this up off of COMC yesterday for under $20 on a "recently added" 50% sale. Probably going to PC it once I have enough items to justify shipping.

Got this one in today as well as a box of '98 and '99 Topps Stars which was a swift kick in the head compared to my last break of those products a month or two ago. I really need to quit a product when ahead.

/99

Got this one in today:

Also picked up 100 unopened packs of 98 Donruss Update and 4 tins of 97 Donruss Preferred. Struck out on the update (in the box breaks section) but snagged a gold jeter in the tins. Though, bottom corners dinged up a bit from bouncing around in the tin for 16 years. If I recall they fixed that in 98 with a piece of foam. Oh well.
