I played against Chris Carpenter in high school. He no hit us in the playoffs, but I did hit a ball the third basemen made an error on in that game. In the league I play in now there are a couple of guys that played in the show but not on the level of Carpenter.

Played against Rick Ankiel twice in 5 days in a summer showcase tournament in Gulf Shores Alabama. He was on a Florida All-Star team that was unfair (I'm from Illinois) he struck me out 3 times on 10 pitches then I got a cheap bunt single because his infielders were asleep they were so bored.

I've played with or against a number of marginal MLB guys but Ankiel as a Senior when I was a Junior was when I realized I better get my education cuz there was zero chance I was going pro.

Basketball - Quentin Richardson and a guy named Joey Range. Frank Williams, Corey Maggette and Melvin Ely were good but had nothing on Q.

Football - Antwaan Randle was unfair in High School. Like Vick in Madden with a Turbo controller

I played with Joe Nathan in High School. This is when he was an above average 3rd baseman and not yet a devastating closer. He graduated a year before me. I played against Matt Morris in Little League, and he was an AMAZING athlete as a child.

I never played with them but I went to the same high school as David Dejesus and Jason Bergmann. I played little league with David's older brother Heryk (pronounced "Eric"). He could rake but never did anything with it (I think he may have gotten hurt)

I played Jaime Garcia my senior year in the Texas High School baseball playoffs. We beat him in game one of the series but then lost game two. Garcia came back a day after throwing seven innings and pitched game three, seven more innings, and beat us. I'm sure his arm troubles have something to do with him throwing so many innings.

I watched him hit a ball onto the gym at Hendricken... it was an insane shot. If it wasn't 475 ft it wasn't a foot. He was by far the best player I ever saw in HS.

Rainville also no hit us. I hit a weak ground ball to first and I felt like I was the man! It's a shame the injury troubles those guys ran into, I thought Rainville was going to be a legend. It seems like every year Hendricken had a future MLB draft pick and we'd be playing in front of 25 scouts. Pretty cool experience to do that considering the relatively mundane experience of RI high school baseball

Coached Mike Zunino in little league. You knew he was special at such a young age. Glad to see him doing well.

I swam in high school with Kara Lynn Joyce's brother (we won a state relay title together), and Kara is now a 3-time Olympian

didn't have anyone else in my area go pro during my time as an athlete (Abby Wambach and Ryan Callahan are closest, Gionta brothers too, also hockey)
