1st case: Going to the experts

Apologies in advance for the newbie post After dabbling in hobby boxes this year, I'm ready to take down my first case. I've mostly been ripping with my sons and building sets, selling the occasional pull. In other words, I'm not necessarily looking to buy, rip, and (try to) profit. Just FUN rips with the kids (colors, autos, etc), and if we can pay for our builds, that's a bonus. Goal, perhaps, being to build out the set for free by selling some pulls.

So sitting here in early September, what case should I pre-order TODAY for the rest of 2012?

For the rest of the year, Topps Update will be a fun, cheap break, lots of rookies, but not much color.

I would say the best product that fits your requirements is out already. 2012 Topps Chrome gives you 2 autos per box, an average of 2-3 colored cards per box, plus a chance at some good stuff.

What this guy said. Update will be a lot lighter on your wallet, but the type of cards you receive will reflect that. Despite the high price (and being a little late to the party ), you still cannot go wrong with 2012 Topps Chrome. My favorite group break I have ever done. Every box had some nice color, and I felt as though an awesome hit could come at any time. Stick with that, you and your son will love it.

chrome would have been a huge hit if the cards sold well on the secondary market. that being said that is the only downside
