Possible Good Deal...Shilling Involved

I know people don't care for these threads, but I need some advice.

I bought a 2012 Dante Bichette Blue Autograph #/150 with a Beckett Raw grade of 9.5/10 auto for $55.95 dlvd.

The issue is that the item was shilled and I basically caught the seller. I wrote him and asked why he shilled the auction and he responded with this:

"Ok well i am dearly sorry and would really like it if u didnt contact ebay, the last raw one went for 42, i think you got a fairly a good deal.LMK if we can work something out."

I feel like just saying to cancel the deal, but not sure if I should just deal with the shilling and pay for it. Thoughts?

Few ways that you could handle this... The way you handle it depends on your your morals, I guess.

1) Complete the transaction as is, and ignore the shill bidding all together
2) Mutually cancel the transaction (Report to ebay?)
3) Hold it over the seller, and look for a discount or free stuff.

Make him give you a partial refund. He'll probably do it since he's afraid of you contacting eBay.

I would ask him to give it to you for the price it ended at minus where he started bidding. Everyone wins

Cancel it or work something out I guess you have the advantage. But at the same time why did you bid what you weren't willing to pay?

That wasn't the point. I bid what I was willing to pay, but I would have won it for much cheaper if his friend hadn't shilled it....if that makes sense. Basically, if I won with legitimate bidders I would have had no issues, but I look at the bidders and see the obvious shill. It just ticked me off I guess.

I haven't asked for anything back in return. I would like to get a little discount because I would have won the card for cheaper minus the shill bid. I'm not out to hold it over the seller though.

You definitely do deserve it.

I'd try asking for something like what you would of won it for, plus an additional 10-25% off for your time, hassle, and overall dissatisfaction.

I hate when that happens. I would ask for him to take $20 off the total so at that price it's a steal.

I contacted him and ask what he would do about the situation. He said he would just like to cancel the transaction if that's okay....

I'd put a neutral feedback in there warning others of shill bidding if it was me.

If this person is shilling auction(s) and they aren't reported to Ebay/Paypal that is to giving this seller the opportunity rip someone else off....

If this happened to me I wouldn't take that card even if they offered it to me for free. I see that as a payoff to prevent reporting.

Shill bidders should get the hammer and be banned by Ebay.

I don't understand the seller's response, but I don't see a shill either. The guy with 5 feedback has only placed 4 bids with this seller to make it 20% bidding history. You would have only saved $2 if not for his bid.

Other than that I see a douche with 60+ retractions, but no retractions on this auction, and no bid history with this seller.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't see what is suspicious enough to contact the seller in the first place.

I admit it's an odd reply by the seller, but he may just be trying to avoid bad feedback from someone who is already fussing.

Did the bidder with 5 feedback make a high bid on the transaction to see what the high bid was, retract his bid, then put in a bid for 50?

Also, I think the seller's response to the OP was pretty much an admission of guilt. I don't see the OP as fussing at all.

There were no retractions on this auction at all. I have no idea what the OP saw as shilling. All we have are paraphrased statements from the OP. We have no idea how the initial message from OP was worded.

Low feedback seller could possibly have no idea what shilling is, and just trying to appease an unhappy buyer.

Not exactly sure what shilling is but if it is driving up the price of an item why would it bother ebay.... it in turn makes them more money in the long run right?

I don't see a shill there either. the bidder in question bid on 5 items in 30 days, one of them was this card. 20% = no shill in my book... unless you're bidding on 100 items or more.

you got a good deal on the blue bichette. i missed the notify on my iPhone, or it would have went higher.
