Default Billy Hamilton officially moves to centerfield

Reds prospect Billy Hamilton will move to center field in 2013 - CBSSports.com

and cue the Juan Pierre, Otis Nixon, and Vince Coleman comparisons...

He has a better arm than Pierre who may have the worse arm in the history of MLB!

I sold all of my Hamilton stuff over the last month. He won't hit for avg in the majors and will be a defensive replacement an a pinch runner within two years.

Doenst matter, he was ranked 27th by Baseball America but so was Matt Laporta, so Hamilton will never do anything because all he does is run and thats it.

What a bust

I really don't understand why people are so quick to say he will be a horrible player? Apparently if you steal a lot of bases, you can't be a quality baseball player? He's hit well in the minors. He might be a good MLB player and he might not. No one can predict these things so I don't see why people state it as a definitive fact.

We can probably all agree that what's important for BH is not to "hit for average" but to "get on base any way possible". That said, he's shown HUGE improvements in his ability to both hit and get on base each of the last two years, and at each of his three stops (since his HORRIFIC April & May in Dayton 2011). Now, I'm not saying he'll win a batting title, but if he can continue to get on base at anywhere close to .400 (his OBP at bakersfield, Pennsacola and, I believe, Dayton June-on), he'll be an INSANELY valuable leadoff hitter at the major league level.

That's obviously a big IF, but his strikeouts are down - any time BH puts the ball in play he could end up at first - and his walks are up, which shows that maybe - just maybe - the kid gets it. As a Reds fan, I can only hope so.

What are you talking about?

I was making a joke about the other thread where someone actually said that Billy Hamilton will not be good because he was ranked 27th overall by Baseball America and everyone else ranked 27th overall has been a bust

The difference between AAA pitching and MLB pitching is as big as the difference between rookie ball and AAA.

Nothing against Hamilton but I just don't see him being a MLB everyday player on a good team. It's true you can't teach speed but you have to be on base to use it.
