A 2 hitter. Unfortunately 1 of those met Chris Davis.

Quote:
“I hung a changeup,” Shields said. “He’s a pretty good hitter. I think that was probably the farthest home run I’ve ever given up in my career. I sent the bat boy over and told him to tell him, ‘Can you hit it any farther?’ Just joking around a little bit. He said something like, ‘I’m sorry. I’ll go and try and hit it 480 feet next time.’ I thought that was pretty funny.”

Well put sir. This is just one of many of cases that prove this. Now hopefully the NL cy young voters can realize this.

Wins still matter. Hello.

If your team is up 7-2 you pitch differently than if you are holding a one run lead. Maybe you unintentionally intentionally walk a batter who owns you. Maybe you pitch to contact to induce a double play.

There is more to pitching than WHIP and ERA.

Yes, this is true, but I think what the person is really trying to say is that wins and losses are not a good reflection of a pitcher's performance. And that's absolutely true.

Yes. Wins and losses are the least important pitcher statistics when measuring the performance of a SP.
