Hahaha thanks. It was a lot closer than it should have been. They left runners on every inning through the first six. And bases loaded with one out in the bottom of the 9th and couldn't score. No complaints though. Ibanez really came through and he didn't even get into the game until the 9th. Hopefully good things will come. Still need to win tomorrow in order to lock up the division.

I think if I were in the situation I'd ask the league if we could do a coin flip instead of a game 163 since they're both in the playoffs anyways.

Could you imagine being the losing team in game 163 with probably your top pitcher going, then winning the one game wildcard game with your #2 and then having to start the actual playoffs with your #3 and #4 pitchers?

You'd have no shot at winning that series

If it were the Tigers, I'd rather take my shot at a coin flip and get stuck in the wildcard game with Verlander going than have to pitch him in game 163 to avoid the wildcard matchup

I would like to see a game 163 as well I think it would be cool to have a one game playoff to see who would not play in a one game playoff.

But my point is, MLB should really look at how they do things. There are THREE teams in the AL with a better record than the Tigers that aren't making the playoffs.

They are 7th out of 14 in record in the AL, but will make it into the Playoffs as the 3rd seed.

Can't do away with divisions, but could maybe restructure them a bit. The central is the worst division in baseball. No doubt about it. Give us Milwaukeee for KC. That'd help.

How many teams had a better record than the Cardinals when they won the series in 06? Its been like this in baseball for a while, just is what it is.

The extra wild card just makes it more glaring.

There are going to be two teams playing in a win or go home wild card game that have won 6 or so more games than the Tigers.

I think winning games is more important than winning the division.

it's just the way sports are, they always have been, there are teams in the NFL who only get into the playoffs because they win their division, and there are teams that don't get a bye even though they've had the second best record that year and have to go play on the road.

If the Yankees win tonight they will clinch the AL East and best record in the AL so that means they will play the winner of the wild card playoff, not Detroit, who will play the winner of the AL West.

So you would rather have a coin flip send you to the 1 game wild card rather than play one game that could send you past that mess? None of these teams want any part of the 1 game play in that is the Wild Card.

By the way, they have tiebreakers in place to determine where 163 will be played. If the AL East ends in a tie, the game will be played in Baltimore.
