like them or not, nirvana were an important band. we dont all have to agree that nirvana were good.. but they did change pop music at the time and their contribution in that regard is far reaching.

Honestly the only reason that Nirvana gets credit for "changing pop music" is because Cobain killed himself. If he wouldn't have, I can guarantee that you would be saying the same thing about Alice in Chains or Pearl Jam (too vastly greater bands).

Honestly I would rank Nirvana 4th out of the bands coming out of Seattle in the late 80s/ early 90's (with the 3rd being Candlebox).

They changed the pop music landscape long before Cobain killed himself.

Maybe it's one of those "you had to be there" things, but I was 14 when Nevermind blew up. The before and after shift in pop music was massive. Of course, Nirvana wasn't the first to have that sound but they were the first to be wildly successful with it.

As much as I do like PJ and AIC, they are not superior to Nirvana. And Candlebox, no way.
We will just have agree to disagree I guess. I can listen to a song like Down in a Hole or Black and think those had so much more feeling than anything Nirvana did. I can feel the misery and pain when listening to those.

Like I said before, I do like Nirvana, but I just feel like they weren't as good other bands of that time (and hell of that city :P). Also, I may have went overboard putting them under Candlebox, but I do think they are close.

I was there too. 7th grade when the Nevermind album blew up. It was pretty sweet.

And how can we have a band is over-rated discussion, without mentioning The Beatles?

Don't forget to add The Who, AC/DC, and Led Zepplin to that, in fact just add any band that gets played on the radio and/or MTV VH1 ect....

Listen to some Slayer, Cannibal Corpse, megadeath, gwar, samhain, sex pistols, ramones.

Cardcop is loving this because everyone here has decided to jump to a different discussion altogether.

You should read the other card cop threads. This isn't the half of it.

He preys on seller who don't use DC to get free cards, and leaves negs for sellers who charge over $2 to ship.

He claims to "be fighting for the card community", but only abuses the system.

I'm more of a Beach Boys guy myself, but there's really no disputing that the Beatles were the most important band, like, ever.

Dear off-subject talker abouters,

So why don't you tell me why you gotten off subject? Anyone who gets this far off subject is doing something wrong, illegal, or just plain disgusting to any level headed person. YOU ARE SCUM & YOU HAVE TO LIVE WITH THAT! Proud that you screw kids?

Get back on subject, or I'll be back on it the same day. Don't you think that's a problem? I DO!!!

I love Grohl's drumming on songs for the deaf. I agree with you.

Nirvana was huge and hugely influential well before Cobain ate the dirty end of a shotgun. Anyone saying the band wouldn't have been anything without Kurt's suicide is engaging in baseless, revisionist history and is exhibiting some pretty shocking ignorance at the same time.

No, they weren't the all mighty "voice of a generation" that they are sometimes proclaimed as, but to disregard their importance in modern music is just outrageous.

Furthermore, anyone that makes a claim to have "stopped listening to music" after a certain year should be disqualified from rendering an opinion on music produced after that year.

One of my top 10 favorite albums of all time. Actually like it more than any of the Foo Fighters albums (even though they were my favorite band for a long time). Such a well-constructed and underrated album.
