Hahahahahaha!
You obviously didn't watch any Red Sox games at the end of the season. Sure the "sell-out streak" lives on, but that has been a fraud for a long time. This article was written in MAY of 2012. Trust me, they were selling more tickets in May of 2012 than they were in September 2012. Red Sox sellout streak proves to be a real numbers game - The Boston Globe |

The "sell-out" streak is a farce and an embarrassment but regardless...it was still going strong when the record was broken.

$131 may seem high, but the MLB sets ticket prices for the playoffs I believe. The cheapest tickets for Detroit in the ALCS were $100. So not much difference so that can't be used as an excuse for lack of attendence.
Now that price disparity is much much bigger for regular season games. |

Yea I was thinking about buying those and going to the Pepsi Porch. Going to be an awesome atmosphere on Tuesday with Verlander on the mound and a 2-0 series lead.
Have fun at the game. Drink some Atwater beer for me.

Pistons weren't expected to be good thats why not many go, the Red Sox are always supposed to be playoff bound but choked out like Latrell did to PJ. Also Detroit fans are classy, probably some of the best in the country.

It's also unrealistic to compare the New York market to Detroit's. I don't know how many more people live withing an hour commute, but I'm sure it's a lot more than Detroit's. Any way you slice it, I would be embarrased if I were a Yankee fan. No way should their attendence be this terrible for the ALCS and ALDS.
They're clearly spoiled. |

There really wasn't that much juice heading into the series, and only got more deflated after game 1.
High ticket prices (not to mention additional gameday costs), team not playing well at all, Sunday NFL, and lack of a "big draw" opponent all played into equation. |

Back in old Yankee Stadium they had a deal where it was 4 Upper Deck Tickets, 4 Hot Dogs, 4 Drinks, 4 Small bags of chips, and a Yankee Yearbook for $60. We only needed 3 seats, but the deal was too good to pass up. Well, they sent us our 4 Tickets, and coupons for 16 Hot Dogs, 16 Drinks, 16 Small bags of chips, and 4 Yankee Yearbooks. About $300 worth of stuff. And that game it was 100 degrees+ out. Lets just say, 16 free drinks come in handy when it's that hot. We ended up giving some of the hot dogs to the people around us, because it's not easy to eat that many hot dogs when it's that hot out.
