Good start for the Cardinals, though Matheny's mismanagement of the bullpen in the 4th and 5th had me pulling out what little hair I have left. Tough game, this series is going the distance methinks.

The lack of productivity from the starters is really limiting us in these playoffs. Bumgarner didn't have his location tonight.

Still, it was nice to see our offense respond with the 4-spot after being down 6-0. Hopefully, we can build on that with a solid start from Vogelsong.

Although Timmy is doing nicely out of the pen. Maybe we found a new home for him (as much as I'd hate to see him permanently relegated as just another reliever, if that is where he thrives, so be it).

HIGHLY doubt that. He only pitched 2 innings because he is starting for Zito. I can't imagine a two time Cy Young winner ending up a middle reliever for having 1 off year (& he started to get it together the 2nd half). Mainly pitched good too except for 1 inning in most games. A nice long off season might be all he needs to get back to normal! Hopefully!

Agree with this. Just look at Verlander's bad year. Given they are different types of pitchers ... I still think Lincecum will get it together.

The really interesting part is that Tim is explicitly pitching out of the stretch right now. That probably won't translate back to a starting role, so hopefully it's just a temporary measure until he can get it together in the off-season.

I agree completely. I would love to see Timmy back in the rotation but I would MUCH rather see him dominate again no matter what role he is in as opposed to what he did this last season. Even at the end of the season when he looked like he was getting it together, every time he got close to the 5.00 ERA barrier, he lost it again.

I did hear about him starting instead of Zito in this series and I think that is a mistake. On the other hand, I don't have 18 years of managing experience like Bochy does so there is a good possiblity I am just ignorant.

Lincecum was pitching only out of the stretch at the end of last year as well.

We'll see. Good chance the plan is for him to just go 4-5 innings. Can't see him going 7 innings out of the stretch ... but what do I know.

Did his velocity ever improve? That was his biggest problem, if I recall correctly.
