Default Does your LCS sell high?

Visited my LCS for the first time today. They were selling 2012 Bowman Chrome hobby boxes for $99 - the same box sells at BO for $67.

Is this incredibly high priced, or is this normal for an LCS in order for them to stay in business?

My LCS is pretty high as well. I don't mind because I usually just buy singles.

My LCS which is generally considered as rather high-priced has them at 80, so yea I would say they are way too expensive.

Mine is way up there as well. Same with singles. I understand the man has to make a profit and I dont mind paying a FEW dollars extra to support him, but selling a Bradford Five Star Auto for $250 is crazy.

my LCS is SUPER high...and I would sadly pull dud boxes. High boxes + dud boxes = no more buy!

Nice guy, but I won't buy from him anymore.

Most of the LCS, in my experience, price their boxes high to give them room to haggle... if you feel the price is too high, go in knowing what online retailers sell them for and see if you can but it at a lower price... if they don't budge, but it online...

Most LCS are gonna be higher than online based purely on overhead. I will happily pay more at my LCS than online any day. That being said, my LCS has Chrome for $69.

My LCS is a wholesale outlet, so they sell at the same price as the dealers.

That's cheap compared to my LCS. Try $6 a pack and $119(plus tax) a box. Ridiculous IMO.

Have to figure the cost of shipping with online purchases. Even with that, I can't imagine that it would come to $90 bucks. Probably only going to go past his place for supplies - toploaders, boxes and that sort of thing - he sells that stuff cheaper than I can find it online and I don't have to pay for shipping, so that's at least a win.

That does seem a bit too high. It's kind of a double edge sword though. You're shop may need to charge that to stay in business, but may get more business with cheaper prices. You'll never know.

I paid $68 apiece for 4 boxes yesterday at my LCS. Sometimes things are high, sometimes right on. TTT is $200 a box there right now.

The LCs i go to has been around since 1988 and they sell slightly above blowout prices for the most part. prices usually go up quicker if the product is hot like museum did but thats just because they cant stock up like blowout does. I think if your a regular customer, shops sell it to you for less. thats just me though. Shout out to All Star cards, San Diego!!!

Well the guy has a little tiny store in a little tiny town that is stuck behind a mall where even the mall has no business - my guess is that just to survive he has to charge that much. My other guess is that most of his business is online through ebay. His website is horrid - luckily I am a web developer. Was thinking of offering a little trade

My LCS is really high in price too, I think its so they can stay in buisness, I prefer just going to Card Shows.

LCS have waaaaay more overhead than BO. They have no choice but to charge a steep retail or close their doors. Consider it the premium for being able to see and touch before you buy. The only way for most of them to make it now is to do group casebreaks and online sales as well. While the internet is great for convenience and competitive pricing, it is also destroying the brick and mortar store foundation the country was built on. Evolution can be kinda sad.

My LCS is typically 40-60% markup vs online retailers.

My buys pre-sale case from BO then marks them up 15% from he bought them. The GOOD part is that he will keep the boxes at that price until they are gone... regardless of fluctuation.

As a result, I could buy Museum Collection and Tribute at $200/box two months after release!

Have three in my area. One is over priced and the guy is a grouch and a pain to deal with. One is awesome and he is always wheeling/dealing with customers and even trades - great prices on stuff. The third just opened up, guy seems okay and his prices were in line ($72 on 2012 Chrome).
