For modern stuff I use BGS, for vintage I use SGC.

after doing a bunch with both BGS & PSA recently, I think I'll stick with PSA for vintage, and go with BGS for modern & autos. i know a lot of people have said the same, but I was able to make my mind up on my own based on what I've seen.
I just had my monthly special with PSA take 58 days on a 45 day sub, so that was frustrating, but the price was right, and I was able to live without the vintage for a while. the modern stuff that i wanted to flip took a hit though, now that the season is ending. i like both slabs, the PSA, make you feel closer to the card, in my opinion, while the sturdy thick BGS ones feel like a secure safe around my high end autos. i also initially didn't like the separate BGS auto grade, but now I think I like it, because even if the card isn't a 9.5, it's still nice seeing that 10 on the label. it's pretty easy picking out singles on ebay that have 10 autos. but i often grade my own PC stuff to lock in the condition, and i'm not really a dealer, so my opinions are my own. that being said, i am posting a couple of my PSA's i just got back over in the marketplace to fund more PC purchases! oh, and i've never tried SGC, so i can't comment on that. if you have any other questions about either one, feel free to ask! |

I'm guessing you go PSA if the Auto won't catch a 10, lol?
Aside from the joke, I agree, BGS is the standard for modern and SGC I find underrated.

I remember when BGS first came out, they were so strict. I then stopped collecting for a while and came back into the hobby recently and found out that they now give out 9.5's like it's nothing. When did they start to sacrifice quality for quantity? Just a shame they just let their standards go down the drain.
Ditto for PSA but i think they have been more consistent throughout the years. They gave out more 10's in the early years but they didn't sacrifice their consistency. That's why PSA 10's go for a lot more than BGS 9.5's right now when in the past, BGS 9.5's blew away any PSA 10s. SGC just seems to be the most accurate. They never sacrificed their consistency in their grades. But they are obviously not as popular as the other 2. Last edited by ReggieBush22; 10-25-2012 at 02:57 PM. |

What do u guys think about sgc? Do u view it on the same level as psa and bgs? Or do u think they are a tad below the big 2? From what i understand, sgc is about as good as it gets when it comes to vintage, especially oddball vintage.

I just got a batch back from SGC and i must say, they are tough. I thought i sent in top notch cards which i hand picked from an already nice batch. But i guess i respect them for being consistent and not just giving out 98's like it's nothing.
