At least
@GeorgeSipple DD said he had come to conclusion on not bringing back Valverde before his playoff struggles.

No. It wasn't his fault. Putting Valverde in when he is choking, sticking with non or under performing players too long (Rayburn, Boesch, Santiago etc) IS his fault. He isn't the worst by any stretch, but I'd like to see a different manager handle this bunch. Someone with a heavier hand. I'd love to have Kirk Gibson here. Maybe somewhere down the road.

Leyland's inexplicable loyalty to Gerald Laird (in general, not just this year) has really hurt the Tigers. The game has definitely passed him by. Maybe he was previously a good manager (though his '97 Marlins were a pretty difficult team to mess up), but other than 2006, he hasn't done anything to impress me, especially in such a weak division. The choke job in game 163 against the Twins a couple years ago is completely on him. I can't wait to see him go and I'll split a bus ticket with 37Jetson to see his dumb, chain-smoking ass right out of town.

Shocked by this, honestly. Seemed like an easy decision.

I didn't realize so many Detroit fans wanted him gone. I can't recall any previous world series team that wanted their manager gone so bad. Might want to be careful what you wish for. The Red Sox got rid of the manager who took them to the top. Look what happened. Could be one of those instances where you don't realize what you have until its gone.

Baseball only matters between July - September, the rest of the season is just practice. Tigers came back, taking out the Whitesox and the Yankees. They made it to the World Series. Yes they didn't win it but at least they got there. So I don't get why Leyland is so hated by Tigers fans? Yea, I get why the Redsox hated their manager, that was obvious.

To everyone who wants Leyland gone, who would be a better replacement? I've yet to hear a solid answer seeing how all the decent managers have been picked up.
The team definitely needs a shake up though.

It was hard, trust me. It helped that I was able to attend 30 or so games and drink a few overpriced beers.
I was hoping for Brookens, Francona or even Ozzie Guillen. This team needs a shake up in personalities. It's not just Leyland I'm sick of, Lamont and Mcclendon are worse. However they won't be leaving as they are Leylands Pittsburgh pals. |

Take away that abomination last season and he's still a very good manager. He is close friends with Miggy and would fit in very well with a Latino heavy clubhouse. He would also be on his best behavior IMO. It would basically be his last chance. People forget the Sox loved playing for him and he does have a ring. He's not #1 on my list, just a name to consider. |

What the Tigers need is a leader, I mean it seemed once Verlander gave up a few runs, the team thought, "Crap, what do we do now?" The Tigers just need a leader who can say, "That's okay, we got this." |

Thank you for bringing up the nightmare of the 2009 season. That was a perfect example of Ron Gardenhire out managing Leyland for the umpteenth time. I guess it was necessary to remind ourselves how Leyland has really been a poor manager during his stint with the Tigers.
I have my half of Leyland's bus fare set aside. I hope to get the chance to use it. Quote:
