We're definitely in for an adventure at 1B though... My main concern with that is if that affects Middlebrooks confidence in throwing the ball across the diamond. Mentally, it can screw with guys not having a good 1B there. Especially important for a guy who probably is not going to be confused with Brooks Robinson anytime soon

Overall I do really like the move. There aren't many better options out there.

2. Pedroia 2B
3. Ortiz DH
4. Napoli 1B
5. Middlebrooks 3B
6. Gomes LF
7. Saltalamacchia C
8. Drew SS
9. Victorino RF

Doesn't exactly get me excited, but they should be competitive.

They should just throw JBJ in left and let him make his mistakes and learn it out in the bigs. Gomes is a chump.

I have always liked that idea, trade Ellsbury at the deadline for pitching (prospects),

Just a question, does anyone know were Bogaerts will start 2013? I was hoping Portland so I could go to a few games and watch him play.

Xander will start in Portland and play most of the year there too. Maybe a move to AAA but only as a stop before Boston.

If Ellsbury is doing well, the Sox will be in the hunt come the deadline. So its either now, or just ride him out at the end of the year.

Excited to see JBJ and Bogaerts in big league camp. Should be interesting to see if Bogaerts gets any reps in LF as well.

Also want to see what Steven Wright can do on the mound. He's probably at least #8 on the organizational depth chart at SP, but it will be interesting to see him in action against big league hitters

Bogaerts isnt going anywhere near the OF, the Sox were adamant of that especially in the WBC.

He is a SS until hes not.

For sure. I guess a lot of his future is tied to Marrero and Iglesias. If either ever blossom into a top prospect, the question is probably raised again. Bogaerts has improved defensively as well, which is nice.

Saturday's pitchers look interesting. Seeing a lot of chatter on Lackey in the media lately. I would love it if Lackey could get back to his LAA form, but that doesn't stop me from wanting to punch him in his big teeth everytime I watch him being interviewed

All I hope for this year is that the team is likeable.

They could go 0-162 but as long as they aren't a bag of pricks like the last five or so years then I will be happy...

I just want baseball to be fun again.

They will be better this year, I dont know if they will be good enough to win the division but if people are healthy and their starters remember how to pitch, they'll compete for the division.

Watching Napoli take grounders at first yesterday was scary. Looks like a liability. Nava, Overbay, and him were all taking reps. Rumor has it they will move Middlebrooks to first to let Xander play third.

Well, unless Middlebrooks was a SS, that doenst make sense since Xander is a SS.

I think it will be fun... This will most certainly be a bridge year, but they have 4 prospects in the top 100 with ETAs of next year. Could be competitive a la 2003/2004 Sox

I LOVE Pedro, but I see that as nothing more than a PR move by ownership.

The 2013 team will compete for a Wild Card spot, so long as Napoli can stay healthy and productive, Drew can be somewhat productive and the starters remember how to pitch.

That is probably something a few years down the road at best. You won't see that this year. If Iglesias learns how to hit or Vinicio/Marrero pan out, I think there would be more conversation on that. For 2013, I don't see that happening at all.

Hes not gonna be playing 3B this year in Portland, hes a SS until he isnt. Simmons and Profar were ahead of him, Simmons is still.
