BEWARE EBAYER Classic Bait n Switch

Always like to warn fellow members on anything shady. Won these two auctions and received two different cards. I would have kept the blue one to be honest because the auto isn't much worse then the one I bought but had two surface dimples on it so no can do.
I have messaged the seller to see his comments before contacting Ebay. The base auto is horrible as you can see from the scan. I'm shocked he did the switch on both cards WOW.

thats a horrible ass auto

Ugly cards. It looks like the guy can't write in english, he just scribbles. Seems a lot more Bowman cards with streaky autos these days almost like they're too cheap to give the guy signing a new marker or something. Faded autos used to be hard to find in a new product but now its the norm. I only have 1 faded auto in my collection its an Andrelton Simmons Blue Ref Auto from 2012 Bowman.

I though my auto was horrible until I saw yours. Heres the one I pulled from a blaster on Saturday...

Mike_333 11-06-2012 09:07 AM

Yeah that auto looks very weak.

MikeWilliamsFan 11-06-2012 10:02 AM

wow that sucks..

On some products, if I've got dupe autos, I will just list them all with the same picture. Never had any complaints. But this is one product where you can NOT do that and get away with it. For shame.

Yeah, I used to do that if I had quantity but people complained a long long time ago and I always use exact photos of what I'm selling. I scrapped the stock photos.

Sometimes when I buy things and they use a stock photo it makes me unhappy. I was picking up a few 2010 Bowman base Heyward autos because I didn't have any base ones and all the sellers sent me different cards than what was shown. One of the cards was even touched up because the auto faded a bit and they did a terrible job at it. It looks like garbage so I pretty much wasted $20,25 bucks. I couldn't see using stock photos on expensive cards either, when people pay real money for something they want to see exactly what they're paying for.

You guys are all great who post your negative eBay experiences, I've blocked a whole lot of people who this community has pointed out for doing bad business. I surely won't be buying anything off this guy EVER! I try to point out some things that I come across on eBay that just aren't right but usually people flame me about it. Like the BGS graded '07 Bowman Sterling Heyward Refractor that has a Joe Savery auto sticker. Some people are actually giving me crap for bringing this $208 false card to light!

Keep the threads like this coming! Its great how we can educate ourselves and let others hear about our bad experiences!

Ok so the Seller said sorry for me being unhappy (never did own up to what he did) and will refund. What is the protocol, should I still file through ebay I would imagine before sending? That way they know whats going on?

File item not described on ebay. Send the cards back in padded envelope with delivery confirmation. If you really want it safe, then add insurance too.

I dont have a problem with stock photos if its a base card. For a patch or Auto card no way is that acceptable in my eyes. The condition of the auto is very important to me and I review them before bidding. He knows what he did, Castanellos sadly has a bad auto and his prices reflect that.

I wish people would learn what a Bait and Switch is.

As for the seller he offered you 100% refund.

There are 3 possibilities-
1. He used a stock photo in the auction. You bitchr is with Ebay as they allow it and he offered you a refund.
2. He had more than one of these and sent you the wrong one by accident.
3. He out to screw people. If he did I would think that he would not have offered a refund.

That's what I'm saying ... I'm talking about like Mark Hamburger autos from Topps Update. If I've got 5 of those, I don't bother with scanning each individual card as long as all the autos look good. For a product like Chrome (where condition of auto is very important), this is definitely unacceptable.

But it's obvious by OP's statement that he thinks he was intentionally screwed over.

Seller shows 3 completed listings for Castellanos base au.(all using same pic)
but only 1 for the blue auto.

So while the base au might have been unintentional,
I find that hard to believe for blue.

OHH YES I DO THINK I GOT SCREWED OVER. Whatever guys a seller doesn't send two wrong cards and not only that you think he has a stock pile of Blue Refractor Autos of one of the best items in the release sitting around? Everyone of us knows that a good auto of Nick is in high demand and I'm not buying it was a mistake. I'm easy going man but I don't feel this was a mistake. Not saying the seller is a crook to everyone but I think he rolled the dice, hoping I wouldn't notice. I caught him red handed what does he have to gain on disputing a refund. Again in this instance I don't think a mistake is possible on both cards that were purchased at the same time and the fact he doesn't have any others for sale.

Either way, the seller was rather 'careless' about something that buyers care very much about.
