Default Veteran's Day Reminder's

Couple of things this morning.

1. Thank a veteran! The freedom we appreciate everyday is because of them.

2. The post office and banks will be closed on Mon November 12, in observance of veteran's day.

Have a great day!

And just don't limit thanking a vet to Monday. Thank one whenever you see one, especially the older ones. You wouldn't believe how happy they get hearing that and telling even a brief tale from their time at war.

I retired after 25 years in the USAF and wouldn't have changed a single minute of that time. I salute my fellow verterans!

Well hated on the forum, but proud to have served ten years in the Marine Corps with more time spent away than home in the states. Thanks for the thanks. It does go a long way. S/F!

As a vet I think veterans day as a national holiday is a little stupid. Although the 4 day weekends when I was active duty were nice.

Been in for 16 years and currently serving in the Marine Corps and stationed in Korea for the next year. It's nice to know that not everyone has forgotten about what we do and the sacrifices made in the past for our great country. Three tours in Iraq, one in Afghanistan, and one on a MEU all since 2006. This will be my second Thanksgiving and Christmas away from my wife and kids. It will be nice once I am able to stay home for a while.

I have been in the Navy for about 9 1/2 years. I made a thread in the football section talking about Veterans Day and my amazing experience at the Jaguars/Colts game Thursday night.

[QUOTE=Pine Tar;3628709]You sir should never tell anyone your a Veteran again in your life.[/QUOTE

I actually agree that Veterans day should not be a holiday. I served ten years and I do not go out of my way to say I am veteran nor do I wish to be thanked for something I did. True veterans and heroes do not look for recognition. The free lunch at Applesbees is thoughtful, but why should it but in the end, it really is only one day a year that people go out of their way to thank you for your service. To me, people should be thankful everyday that men and women put their lives in danger so we can let bleeding hearts and code pink spill their hate all over the country (and those nut jobs from Kansas saying how God hates everything but them)

But to answer the second part of his statement. I never got a 96 when I was in for Veterans Day. The Marine Corps always had the Ball the night before, so it was a day off following a night of uncontrollable drinking until the Gunny's wife decided she was going to ditch her dumbass husband and hang out with all of the young Marines.

With comments like this my guess is that you were a slug or a REMF and the reason you couldn't last in the military is that you are a self-centered, non-sacrificing, always looking out for yourself, me first POS.

I have no need to discuss my military past and any thanks that are sent my way should be sent to those that sacrificed their lives for our country. I don't partake in Veterans Day other than to give thanks for this wonderful country and for all of the past military members that gave their all so we can sit at a computer talking about baseball cards.

I would like to thank everyone who has served for our country and freedom. Democrat or Republican does not matter when you are putting your life on the line for others. THANK YOU TO ALL!

I guess maybe I should elaborate since people like you just assume things that couldn't be further from the truth, it sounds like you might be projecting.

The reason I don't think it should be a national holiday is because schools, banks, government offices, and a bunch of other businesses shut down for it. It is just used as an excuse to take a Monday off work, not to thank vets. Other than this thread or a generic comment on Facebook how many people said thank you?

Am I for thanking vets? Absolutely. Without them we do not have this country as we know it.

And for the record, I only served 4 years because the military life is not for me. I wanted to start a family and I did not want one that would have to move around all the time.

Spent 4 1/2 years in the Marine Corps. It has an will always give me a direct outlook on sacrifice, not by me, but the heroes I was graced to stand next to. My dad was a large part of it. Being a punk kid growing up, I knew I needed something better than what I was doing. So I did something that's engraved into my soul. I'd like to give a shot out to my unit. Fox co 2/5 Blackhearts. Retreat Hell!

I say it every single year. Without Veterans Day and Memorial Day, all other holidays wouldn't be possible.

Thanks for all the Veteran's that have served!

For all the young whippersnappers, the Veteran's Day observance was passed by Congress to commemorate the ending of WWI.

From Wiki:

Veterans Day is an official United States holiday honoring armed service veterans. It is a federal holiday that is observed on November 11th. It coincides with other holidays such as Armistice Day and Remembrance Day, which are celebrated in other parts of the world and also mark the anniversary of the end of World War I. (Major hostilities of World War I were formally ended at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918, with the German signing of the Armistice.)
