Does anyone know if Topps exchanges damaged cards? I would think they should for high-end products but may be wrong. I did exchange a Bowman Harper RC once because of a small crease without a problem.
Not on the ones you have seen in this thread, they will send you the card back and a letter stating "Within normal printing tolerances"

These print runs were already on the sell sheet. Not sure why people are surprised the bigger names are harder to get. The chipping should be more of an issue.

That being said, there's no way this product is worth the money and unless every card is a great, I don't think you can make a baseball product that has that kind of per card value without depending on added value from branding. Baseball cards don't have as large of a price disparity as basketball or football.

The thrill always keeps people coming back though. If someone is ripping a case just for their PC, imagine what they could get for that $1,300 if they bought singles. I'm pretty sure I could get some amazing Ripken stuff at that price point.

having done some print material in the past, i have seen these types of edge/corner markings caused by the cutting process. shouldn't they have blade-less laser beam cutters these days? maybe a different type of paper stock or cutting method would fix this. chrome cards don't have this issue!

C'mon Topps.... that's awful for what they are asking for this stuff. There's going to be alot of royally pissed people with cards in that shape coming out of that product.

Default IMHO...

It's never gonna be a straight profit with boxes and cases. The value is in the gamble you take, the odds of getting the big hit. Once people see Harper, Pujols, Koufax, bat knobs, etc. come out of Five Star breaks we'll have a better perspective.
If there is 1 big hit for the 208 Vidal Blue autos, that's not particularly bad. Buy $500 worth of scratch offs and see how it works out.
Best to All,
VinnyH
PS: the condition problem is bad though, hopefully it's limited

maybe they should make the cards of high impact plastics.

the chipping is an issue, be wary of ebayers "touching-up" their edges with markers.

Agree on wider price ranges on BK but not necessarily on football. You can still pull $10k+ cards out of baseball but for football and hockey there is a fairly low ceiling on what most collectors are willing to spend.

There is considerable high end hit potential in baseball and basketball because of the collecting bases involved.

I was reading Brent's tweets and he said the people busting 5 star reported 95% of the cards had condition issues. He also mentioned the 8 auto booklet of Trout, Harper, Yu and Cespedes had been pulled.

A few of the ebay auctions were ended early by the seller. Here's one. Love the card...hate the condition.

Everyone said that about the first year of football and next year it was the same. So they've had 2 years of this in football to fix this and still haven't. What does that tell you?

EDIT:

Here's a great example from the SECOND year of the football product:

This is a $20 SV card at most. Such a shame. I'm opening 1 box of this tomorrow and may be reduced to tears if this is the garbage I end up pulling.

Man, would love to open one box, but can't justify 400+ on this stuff with the chipping and possible HORRIBLE box. Will stick to my singles for now unless box prices go down to the lower 300s.

People have awfully short memories, as this was a constant problem with Exquisite, UD Black and any other hard signed set with full bleed composition. Players handle the cards to sign them, and are not careful. AT ALL.

Personally, its not THAT big of a deal to me. I would much rather have on card autos like this, than perfect ones with stickers.

+1...
To me , having small jerseys/patches are a much bigger deal than chipping/corner issues.

I live a few miles from that printing place. Wonder what a trip by their dumpster would provide.
