Default 2012 Sterling

Pre ordered at a real good price but now questioning it. Ordered a case and a half which should yield 216 on card autos. I'm in under $2500 so even averaging $10 per auto with no huge hits I should be ok. Problem is, that logic never works out and Sterling has been a dog in the past. The change to on card autos has me believing that this is going to change this year. Product checklist/pictures and pre-release info looks great. Having said that it is A LOT of money.

Just wondering if I should flip it unopened. I would like to buy draft but the first case I've ever bought/ripped was a case of 2012 BC and I took a bath. I'm a collector not a flipper but I would like the product to at least value near the purchase price. I don't like the feast or famine of Chrome/Draft but get that is the reason it holds it's singles value.

I'd like to get some thoughts form the members here. My time back in the hobby is very short and I'm learning quick but it would be dumb to not use the wealth of knowledge/experience on here.

Based strictly on the math and numbers you provided, it's a no brainer. I'd buy.

That's what I'm thinking too but this hobby has a way of throwing curve balls to the best laid plans. I'm just trying to make sure I'm not missing something.

Even if something crazy happens and you get shorted a few auto's or whatever, you're still very likely to get some $100+ hits. Well worth the risk in my opinion.

At 10 bucks an auto you can't lose THAT bad. You won't take a five star hit anyway.

at that price, it should be well worth the gamble.

i would think you would almost be guaranteed:
1-2 autos $150+ cards ($250 ave)
2-3 autos $100-$150 cards ($300 ave)
10 autos $50-$100 cards ($750 ave)
50+ non-auto base cards/refractors ($100, maybe more)

thats roughly $1400 right there and only 15 autos/base

200 remaining autos for $1100.
pretty good deal for $5.50 an auto.
and thats without hitting a monster auto/etc.

if that dosen't sound good, you could resell cases for at least $200 profit

Some great responses, thanks guys. These are the types of numbers/returns I was running through my head too. Really seems to be a no brainer. I don't think I have the discipline to flip the boxes knowing the Jesus/Ruth/Elvis triple auto quad atomic superfractor was in them. This should be an amazingly fun break with a couple of PC cards and the ability to recover a good chunk of my buy in. That's the plan anyhow.

What other TOPPS product is innate avg each auto around $10?

Plus base and such. If ripped, you'd almost definitely make a profit if listed accordingly.

True but that is an assumption of $10 avg. There are plenty of $1-2 autos selling from 2011 Sterling. I'm hoping the on card will fix that. The sheer amount of autos may kill the value as well. They shouldn't be as hard to come by as the 1 per box Chrome/Draft unless they really water it down. That too would be very bad.

True, that is why timing is everything on this. Open fast and list fast.

Getting flashbacks to 1998 ish flair showcase parallels with that one on the bottom right - what are they calling this refractor?
